The wolf that approached him was obviously alpha. His bearing boasted the position clearly, despite the wolf’s age. In fact, he seemed spryer than many of the wolves Nootau’s age. Immediately, Nootau liked the wolf and his tail waved behind him in greeting as the old male came to a halt before him. He returned the glowing grin of the alpha and also bowed his head. This was how greetings were given in his old pack – the bow of a head signified respect and good will. In his past, Nootau hadn’t often received the courtesy, so receiving it now was all the more pleasing. Coming to Spirane was a good call by Nootau; he would enjoy his time here, he was certain.

“Nice to meet you, Alcide” Nootau said, wondering if first name basis here was alright only because he was currently thinking of his old pack (as in, because his former home was so stongly on his mind, so were their traditions). In Diveen it had been fine to address either Isola or Pretty-lovely-boy (Kane) familiarly. Since Alcide had introduced himself as such so Nootau figured it was appropriate, but in his last pack titles were used as a form of respect for the higher ranked. Nootau had disregarded the names when he had lived with them (rebelliousness) and thus been punished. Technically, an old male alpha would have been addressed “Old Man” or “Gramps” in the common language. Nootau had decided against saying either of those though, because the translation of the titles weren’t normally received well by strangers. Maybe in the future he could call Alcide Old Man…

“My name is Nootau,” The young male continued, puffing out proudly. One day, he’d be famous – he was sure of it. “I’m looking for a pack and was hoping that I could have a trial run in Spirane?” Before he started getting all attached to the idea of staying around, he figured it’s be best to get himself permission to live in Spirane first. He didn’t really expect to be denied (for Alcide’s greeting was aimable), but having stuff as important as this clarified was probably a good idea.
