At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Find Me In The Darkness

The water hit her like a brick and she tried to scream, all of the air exiting her lungs. Luckily she didn’t inhale, but her chest burned with need for air. Her body, on the other hand, was frozen to the bone. Her thick pelt did nothing to protect her against the water’s temperature, and within seconds of being beneath the ice she was drenched. Frantically, she went belly up and tried to push her way out of the ice but it weighed too much for her to push aside. Her claws scratched at the surface but with the changed density of the water, she barely had any effect. A stinging sensation twinged in her paws as the blood rushed away from them. Far and away she heard the bare noise of a voice – it must be Zev. Her widened orbs saw his form looming over her, his own claws raking deep ditches in the lake’s hardened surface, and then it was began to become stained with the bright red blood that was leaking from his paws.

Athene saw the ice beginning to crack as Zev made progress, and she turned over and was surprised to find that she was in a shallow area of the lake. Pressing her paws to the silt of Leisure Lake, she benched her back as hard as she could, attempting to break it. Between her pressure and the cracks that Zev had formed, the ice finally gave way and Athene’s head managed to break through, her lungs inhaling quickly and filling with air. A few quick, deep breaths continued as she relished the taste of fresh air but then it rushed out again as she fell a pull on her scruff. Zev – he had grabbed her and dragged her away from the hole in the ice. As they moved away, their combined weight was sufficient to spread the cracking ice. Apparently it was not thick enough to hold weight. Athene began to scramble backward so that the pair of them would not both fall into the lake together. Her honey orbs watched the sliver of a crack running underneath her and then suddenly the pair fell backward onto the shore and Athene inhaled sharply once more as she felt the smallest feeling of pebbles beneath her.

Finally… they were safe.

Athene? Athene? The fae stood and shook out her pelt, shivering immediately beginning to shake her entire form in an attempt to warm her up but the next second she felt the full weight of Zev slam into her, knocking her over. Her own wet pelt began to soak him, but she felt his own warmth seeping into her form. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. This is all my fault! We shouldn’t have come here, we shouldn’t have dared the trek out in the snow. Athene, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Athene’s lung once more cried for air and she let loose a growl and crawled out from underneath them, leaping away from his form. She felt as if she had gained 100 pounds with the way that the water had soaked her thoroughly, and yet the adrenaline that began to run through her veins warmed her.

The fear that had filled her now was overcome by something even stronger – anger. Her lids slit themselves and she pinned her auds against her cranium. How dare he put his life in danger for her! If he had died because of her and she had outlived him, she would never be able to live with that knowledge! Did he had no regard for the value of his own life? Her eyes shifted to his bleeding paws – she had always been so careful, graceful, elegant… and yet because of the way that Zev clouded her mind, she had fallen to the depths and he had been injured as a result. His paws were bleeding and she was the cause of it. It was all her fault.

Stay away from me!
Go own, you’re free.

Never return to my sight
or else your form I will smite.

Leave me alone…

Her words were as harsh and biting as the wind that blew against them. Turning away from him, it dropped to a mere whisper. “For hurting you… I must atone.” It was hard for her to say such words but she did not want to ever cause him injury again. Her haunches pushed off against the earth and she began to leap away from him, her eyes never looking back toward him. As she ran away, her eyes ran as well, but her tears were invisible upon her already soaked pelt, the whimpers escaping from her maw swept away silently by the wind.
