aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Mwonaji's eyes

Mwonaji continued to sulk through the dark, old forest without direction. She could feel the refreshing energy radiating from the moon, just as it did every night but here it felt different somehow. In this forest, she could feel the protection of the canopy formed by the ancient trees that were twisted and tangled amongst one another, preventing any of the moon’s radiance to penetrate through. The result of which led to a silent, sleepless night.

What only seemed like a few hours passed in this dead and uninhabitable place when the energetic optimism and safety radiating from the moon slowly began to fade. Mwonaji knew that the sun should be risen soon although she could not tell how soon in this timeless terrain. The darkness of it did not bother her though, as the light did not much affect her. In fact, she had an advantage in darkness. Where other wolves were distracted by their inhibited sight, it was something she was…

Mwonaji sniffed the air and quickly found a tree to hide her slight figure. Her cloudy eyes staring blankly over her nose as she let her other senses take over. She sensed a little one moving from far away, hearing it stumble around on her new legs as her companion once had, but this little one was much smaller, quieter and walked on four legs. Could she have once been like this? Was this the meeting she had been waiting for? One of her own kind…

What do I say, she thought to herself. She realized she had not spoken aloud in ages. Would she remember how? If she couldn’t....

She suddenly felt a surge of terror through her spine and retreated behind the tree once more. She must not show weakness… but this new wolf she sensed… This one was huge. He was one of her kind though. He moved and even smelled almost like her. But something was missing. There was no sweet scent like the one engulfing her. She was sure she was as easy to spot as in injured caribou in the middle of an ice field with it and for that reason she could not hide.

Mwonaji cautiously padded out from around the tree. She had to trust him. Glancing at the pup, she knew if he were to trust her she must not so much as acknowledge her presence. She was here to join them and could not come off in a threatening manner. She walked up the large one with her ears back slightly, in a cautious but confident manner. She sat back on her haunches and lowered her head below the level of his chin, the only sign of submission she could remember from the last time she had been allowed to run with her own kind, so many years ago. She stayed perfectly still in this position, attempting to relax her tense and frightened body, awaiting this contemplative male’s response.
