Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

I don't know why Taliesin has chosen to call on me today but I could use the company and perhaps a new friend wouldn't be such a bad thing after all. I wonder what he wants to do in life. I haven't really seen him set on goals in the pack ranks yet so I don't know what he plans on doing as far as specializing. Is that why he calls on me? Does he wish to know more about hunting? I would think its more of a natural thing for any predator but Swallowbane was to be my apprentice so apparently it is something others wish to learn about. Of course, I don't think he was that much interested in my work, to be honest. He seemed almost bitter about having to work with me.

I hear that there's been a lot of sparring going on as the younger males get tough enough to be warriors of the pack some day. I was never much of a fighter and this far down the road in life I doubt I can change that now. I'll always be the runner, the one who knows how to escape, not fight. Judging by the playful scars on Taliesin, I'd say he's one of the wolves who have been sparring. I hope he's doing well.

Yes, there are indeed many stores I could tell but most of them paint me in a cowardly light, something I've been titled as my entire life. Like I said, I've always been the one to escape, never the one to fight. The meteor fall is a tough subject, true, but what's the toughest about it is that I made a promise to the love of my life, the one who even now stands by my side, Laila, and I broke that promise to her during the meteor fall. I promised I would always be there for her and I ran. I thought only of myself when it all happened and I ran and by the time I thought about her and the kids, I ran back but it was too late. They were already gone, seeking sheleter elsewhere, probably still thinking I would be right there but I'd ran too far away. I was too far behind so it took me two years of searching when everyone returned to Moladian before I found her again. She was right to be disappointed in me and she had every right tot turn me away and yet she didn't.

Even so, I start telling Taliesin, starting back when I came to Moladian though I guess I skipped over some other pieces but they weren't really important. I went to a place called Blossom before Moladian, part of my wandering days. I found a pack called Moondown Shadows and the alpha took me in, only to leave a few months later and put a female named Lyra in charge. Lyra was brave and intelligent and beautiful and she took my breath away. I fell for her, hard, and she for me but I couldn't stand beside her as alpha. I had no want for the power or the prestige and I was no good at things like defending a pack. I didn't deserve her. After a few years there, I saw the disappointment in her eyes because I wouldn't stand up and be her equal so instead of hurting her anymore, I left. I left Blossom Forest and found my way here, to Moladian.

I tell him about Ghost and her tormenting, telling him about the dark knight named King Kong who saved me on that fateful day and yet I didn't stay back to thank him. I haven't seen him since returning which saddens me cause now I have a feeling I'll never get to thank him. He's either dead or not coming back.

I've never been a wolf of size so it's easy to understand why I'm a runner, I guess. I stand lower than Taliesin and most of the female wolves in Moladian. My mother wasn't very big and my father was average height but more lean than brawny. I ended up with my mother's height and my father's lean figure, my luck. Taliesin's right to think he could have probably out muscled me when he was younger. I was never a wolf with muscle and I was never a fighter. He seems fearful for me when I tell him about Ghost attacking me and I can tell already that he's not going to blame me for running but he must see the shame in my eyes when I talk about it. I feel like I should have done something.

He disagrees with me as I knew he would, saying he would have done the same and that I did the right thing. He brings up my valor at the pack hunt and my ears tilt forward in surprise at the praise, eyes widening some. I shrug lightly, ducking my head some, unable to meet his gaze. I've never been one to receive compliments, let alone know how to take them with grace.

"Hunting has always been different for me. I can confront an angry moose bull any day of the week but tell me to talk to an aggressive wolf and I've suddenly got cold feet. I'm more of a healer when it comes to battles. I know of some herbs and I don't like to see others get hurt. I prioritize safety over everything else and always have. Yes, I did what I had to to survive cause there's no way I would have gotten out of that fight with Ghost alive but I still feel miserable about it. Males are supposed to be warriors, able to fight for what they believe in. I'm afraid every day that something or someone will threaten my family and I'll be helpless to stop it."

My eyes show that fear, already picturing a large wolf staring down Laila. My beautiful, perfect Laila. I'd never forgive myself if something happened to her.
