aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

He finally said it. He finally said the word that meant what he had been doing. Plus, the burgio said it to her sister. Not exactly the way he wanted to spend the word, but it was going to be a way that he could use it over and over again. He watched as Hellene’s face changed, perhaps maybe in sympathy or in sadness, but what came next almost shrank him to the ground. “You....love... her!? Well what a.... mistake you have made!" Her laughter taunted him. Zev’s pain went away immediately, retreated back into his small little dwelling pool of emotions. What replaced it? A steaming block of anger he did not experience very often. Fury almost sent him backwards, his lip almost fluttered and he almost lost it. How dare she? Did she think him as a liar or something? But she spoke again, and he withdrew his snarl. “I do not mean to be insensitive, that was not my intention. And you wouldn't be the first... but it is just... well how do I explain this in the nicest way possible? She...” But Zev’s words reached her ears before she could finish her sentence. It was hard for him to talk, hard for him to make sure that the tears welling in his eyes didn’t crawl down his face. He didn’t dare look up again, knowing that the sight of Athene was too much he could handle. It took several long minutes before she spoke again.

“"As you no doubt have noticed... Athene is not like others. But I do not know how much you know. The shortest way to put it is that she was our father's prodigal offspring, and I our mother's. She was the warrior, but it was more than that. She was not to have a mate. Ever. Or at least not a love. They were the strongest of us, and therefore were expected to spread their seed where they could. They were too independent to be tied down and therefore were expected to be promiscuous, birthing a variety of pups until they had one which could be their legacy.” She continued on. “My father chose Athene... so when brutes have fallen for her, it is always the same. They walk away heartbroken when she tells them that she can bare their pups but no more. Well first of all, she has not laid with another. None have wanted to have her bare his pups without the accompanying relationship. They do not understand the way of our pack.” Before she could finish her sentence, Zev burst in, explanation fueling his words. “I do not wish to bear her children. I mean, I must discuss that with her; it would be my pleasure, but that is not the issue. I have not wanted a lot in my lifetime, but I am willing to throw my life on the line in order to be with her! The only way I leave is if my body stays behind, wrapped around her until the very last second. That is all I wish. Ever

He sighed, the reality in his words much too big for him to handle, and he looked back down to the ground. Hellene brought up his cranium as she spoke once more. Would she even help him or leave him there to fend for himself? “But... if she did not say those words to you, perhaps it is different this time. For me to be sure, you must relate to me all that has happened. Be swift for if this time is different... if you are different... we need to be swift." Shock riddled him still. His mind raced, eyes closed, thinking of the words she had said. Why was it now that they were not branded into his mind? “She fell through the ice, and I clawed at it. I was afraid. The ice was sharp so it cut my claws; they bled all over the ice, more than they should have. It was a shallow part to what I understand now, so when I made a dent in the ice she could manage to get herself out. I pulled her into the snow and tried to warm her, managing to knock her over because really I underestimate my weight when I shouldn’t. She said...she said.” His mind embraced the rhyme that was so very, very real to him.
“Stay away from me!
Go own, you’re free.

Never return to my sight
or else your form I will smite.

Leave me alone…
For hurting you… I must atone.

I don’t know if the last sentence happened or not; she is very, very quiet.”
He looked to her sister, eyes ablaze in a blue fire that could not be doused. He waited, the breath catching in his throat.
