Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it

Yep. It’s a long way down. Why am I peering over it’s edge with such intensity? No idea. I kick a stone over the edge and watch as it disappears below. I can hear it bang a few times before no other sound reaches me. Yep, long way down. Not going that way. I snort and step back a bit, the winds ripping at my mane. That’s when the first one snuck up on me — a mare by her voice.

I give a bit of a rear. I was startled, but the rocks slide a little and I scramble for more secure footing. I must look like a donkey with my legs sprawled out. I shake my mane, but before I can move from my startled position, a stallion approaches. Gold like me, but he doesn’t shine. So I win. I look between the two as he greets her.

So she’s his lover? He’s probably in charge. I pick my feet back up and carefully maneuver away from that cliff’s edge. I’m facing the other two, and uh, can’t get back down. Going to have to hope they are nice. The stallion moves his lips, a deep, toothy voice filling the gap.

What the heck was this bloke saying? She cocked her head a bit, looking back at the mare.

“Ah’m sawre,” I began. The wind ripped the words from my mouth. I sighed and approached the two. “Ah’m sawre!” I shouted, hoping I would be heard over the wind. “Ah wus qui’ indend on… yer cliff ’n… ya kno’, not fall’n off o’id.” I gave a sheepish smile. “Sa… can y’all come again?”

I look at the two hopefully. I really don’t want to insult them. Seeing as if that stallion charges… off the edge I go.
