howling ghosts, they reappear

Danny had had about enough of these nerves. With a skill he'd learned, through much trial and error, from Doctor Gupta, the young man reached deep inside himself and decided to flip the switch. Instantly, calm flooded him. This was his doctor mindset, his "the world can be blowing up around me but I gotta stay cool" personality. Danny stood a little taller, his expression seemed a little more certain, and his hands stopped shaking from where they cradled General. There was still worry in the back of his mind, of course, but he'd managed to push it back before it could consume him. He could tell he'd done the right thing, bringing General to Thoth. The other boy seemed knowledgeable, and Danny had seen some of the animals he'd bandaged up before, so he knew the tough little bird was in good hands. When Thoth introduced himself, the gray mare, and what Danny assumed was his familiar, Danny smiled at the horse. Danny liked Junebell, even though he couldn't speak her language like Thoth apparently could, he could sense a kind heart; plus, he had to admit, without her assistance he and Sol would very likely be standing outside still.

"Does Junebell always sleep up here?" Danny asked before he could stop himself. He turned a little pink again, but didn't hurry to retract the question. His tone was curious, mostly because he was trying to figure out how in the world the boy had gotten the horse all the way into his workshop in the first place.

Thoth's attention was already turned towards General, though, and the boy leaned forward intently to catch everything Thoth mentioned. He'd learned enough, in his time with Doctor Gupta and the medicinal plants, to realize that some of the terms the other boy used were Latin, and was able to put together that Thoth was giving the scientific name for General's species. He was instantly curious, and several questions came to mind (including a question about how Thoth could speak with animals, of course), but Danny kept them to himself. Doctor Gupta was always open to questions while he worked, which was why Danny had been able to absorb so much in his time with the man already, but he'd learned from the several nurses and assistants that not everyone was as patient.

When Thoth inspected General's wing, Danny tried to avoid getting into Thoth's light or crowding him too much but stayed close, eager to hear and see and learn anything he could pick up. He was particularly interested in the device Thoth used to inspect General's wing, and had already made a note to mention the helpful device to Doctor Gupta when they met the following day. Out of habit, when Thoth began his long-winded explanation, Danny withdrew a pad of paper and pencil from his coat and took notes in what the good doctor had dubbed "Dannyhand", a collection of half-letters and scribbles that only Danny was capable of deciphering. When Thoth directed him to the bandages, Danny leapt to do as he was asked before hurrying back, trying his hardest not to miss anything.

"Will she be okay?" Danny asked, his expression concerned. Though he wasn't able to understand Thoth, the concern over General's flying future was still heavy on his mind.
