Yesterday, the Pension Board meeting was the shortest meeting since I have been attending them . I started attending in September 2011 .
The new Chairman ran a very precise and orderly meeting.
The only topic of discussion of any concern, was one brought up by Trustee Gray concerning an issue in the external audit report about the Past Administrator spending her own money to help a retiree who was missed on a payment he was due, and the Board reimbursing her. Trustee Gray said that he did not remember voting to condone this as reported in the report and Trustee Gray wanted to send the report back to the Auditors to correct that statement. After some discussion, and the Attorneys advise, the Board voted to ratify their actions and except the audit report.
I personally am glad they did, because if they had sent it back to the auditors it would have held up the Actuary another month, from receiving the audit and determining if a 13th check was earned or not.
The process takes long enough now ( 8 months ) we certainly do not need any more delays, It,s a shame the Board WILL NOT request the eternal auditors to submit their audit report by the next Board meeting in November, after receiving our accountants report in October and then request an Actuary report to be submitted to the Board at the next Board meeting in December, after receiving the external audit report and then if a 13th check is earned, it could be paid sooner than it is now. Past Chairmen would not even form a committee to study if the speeding up of the 13th check could be accomplished.
Another item of importance that Trustee Gray brought up was a message from retirees at the Tampa Fire & Police Assoc. meeting that he attended, about how great Micheal Ahern helped them in some personal matters.
My observance has been that ALL the staff at the Pension Office has been out standing under our Interim Administrators supervision.
