Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

What had begun as a rather luxurious moment of peace and quiet and a taste of rich winter water was abruptly ended by the tendrils of red that slithered and coiled within the stream I drunk form, staining and tainting the water as I moved to hurriedly lift my muzzle once more, the violet of my gaze narrowed in agitated discontent as I snorted once more, handsome head inclined to search for whom ever it was that had decided to drop their prey into the river, or else searching for the body of whatever wolf had inconveniently died upstream of my chosen drinking location. My muzzle twisted in a grimace of sorts as I my gaze fell upon a black female as she lunged from the river to land back atop the shore, eyes appraising her form momentarily. Had she been male and of a larger, thick variety she may well have passed for Tobias, then again, from what I remember that creature was given to have touches of his mother’s white grey in his pelt, along with a more earthen hue on his underside. Hmm, I wonder if Jaidah would have been proud of the boy, her most successful son. Not that it would have been hard to be more successful then her other offspring. Hell, she had mountains of whelps and save for the green-eyed monstrosity, the others had almost cease to exist. Maybe she was better off dead, lest she see the failings of her bloodline, a line that only continued to exist due to my on contribution through Ava and Aaliyah’s surviving son, Elijah. I huffed in momentary discord before moving to lift myself to my paws once more, long limbs striding towards the black female.

I moved to seat myself one again a short disdain from her midnight form, as black as my own was white, head tilting slightly as I moved to observe her with mild curiosity, content to note there was very little of anything even mildly interesting about her and indeed, she was hardly the wolf I was searching for today, the barest hint of a smirk tracing across my lips.

“Darling, do you see what you’ve done here? Because I’m not sure you do.”

Maybe I’m not in a good mood today, who knew? Either way I was not entirely thrilled with my day being interrupted by this….thing. Didn’t she have other rivers to pollute somewhere? The one time I leave Diveen and I almost ingest an unknown blood. It was hardly likely to be anything other then hare or boar yet either way I am displeased with my drink having been interrupted in this manner. The polite expression I wear however, is rather contradictory to my developing disdain. I may be old, but there is little I have no seen or dealt with before. I paused momentarily, offering a place for a response, one eye lifting slightly before I gestured towards to river she had only moments ago leapt out of.

“Maybe you are utterly stupid enough to enjoy taking baths in the middle of winter and filling the water with either your own blood or whatever prey it was you captured, but poisoning the water source is hardly useful now is it?”

I paused once more, tattered left ear flicking forward in case she should feel the useless need to have something of a response to that before I offered another teasing grin to follow so perfectly along with my less than pleasant words, content to mock this ridiculous creature with ease.
“Tell me, what part of you thought a winter swim would be better than just rolling in the snow to clean yourself off, hmm? If you are simply inbred then I apologise, your parenting is not your fault, either way, perhaps next time you might consider not ruining my day.”

One eye lifted once more, evidently content to goad the silly female and see how long it takes for her and her weak will to snap. Why? I suppose I’m just bored, then again, I do have a purpose.

“You haven’t seen another black wolf have you? Larger than yourself, a male, green-eyes?”
