Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The closer Natu draws to Maud the more disappointed she grows, her bright blue eyes seeming to dim with each step. Not because Maud is a disappointing wolf. She is young, dark and moves as the shadows - liquid and ever flowing. It is because every step that she takes towards Maud reveals that this pup is not much of a pup anymore. From a distance Natu imagined Maud to be a small tyke wandering alone but this female is edging into adulthood rather quickly although her body still lacks full definition that time will bring it. Natu's body is full, her winter coat thick and warming and it adds extra weight to her frame. She is not too old but neither is she still a youth. Her body aches on occasion due to a lifetime of movement and strain. It would be many years before Maud felt such things, she assumed.

The wariness that lingers around the female is made aware by her tense body but since she does not spring to attack nor jerk away in fear Natu continues to move towards her until they are a few feet apart. She takes in the darkness that is Maud and waits for whatever reaction she is to receive. And it is not long in coming. Natu realized her blunder now in calling out to the youth for Maud was no child. She was cusping on the edge of adulthood and Natu had insulted her with mere words but to retract them now or offer some sort of apology would perhaps cause Maud to think even less of the alabaster wolf. In her time Natu has known many wolves, young and old, and she only blinks as Maud hisses at her.

For a brief moment there is only the sound of their breaths parting the air and the wind combing through their fur. Bright blue eyes study Maud, clashing with her golden ones. Natu is neither condescending or frightful. Despite her age her body is well honed to respond to attacks and thicker than Maud's so for the time being she is safe in her mind at least. "No." The word comes rolling out of Natu's mouth with force and her ears flick back slightly in sudden agitation. Maud is not the cause of it but she has sparked within Natu the imprint of emotions from her past. Memories that glide seamlessly into the background of her mind.

"What do you seek?" Natu does not know why the question tumbles out of her. Or why she cares when Maud has offered no pleasantries. But it is in her soul to look out for others, even the ones who do not need looking after. Plus Maud flows across the land as if in search and Natu's wandering soul is reminded of her own travel - although she has probably traveled much further than Maud plans to at the moment.
