Water. I could hear it, slipping and tumbling over stepping stones in the shallow bed of clay, hollowed out by years of water erosion. The trees had died and formed a steady line a few meters before the bank, not daring enough to cross that single line. Many wolves came to the river to find partnership, yet that is not why I was going. My muscles rippled beneath a cloak of silver white, dust and debris sliding smoothly out of my pelt as I stood. The blue grey eyes of mine were soon closing as I stepped into the light, shutting out the hot rays as they attempted to burn out my portals. It was a bright day, and I hated it. I was used to the cold, being an arctic wolf, layered in thick fur and rock solid muscles. I needed to feel the chill in the air, the tingle in my spine, the wind in my fur. All of it was replaced by heat and humidity.
Lifting one large paw at a time, I soon found myself traveling a well beaten trail, just feet away from the break of the trees. My tail immediatly rose over my back as I stepped out of the wooded area, my display dominant and brave. I felt that I was an equal, and should be respected, so I held my posture as I gingerly trotted to the river's edge. With my domes perked forward in alert, I lowered my skull to lap at the water, stance still dominant yet all at the same time relaxed. I had no need to be aggressive, so I stayed calm. After I finished my drink, I turned my gaze to look upon a honey brown female. Her eyes were also of blue, yet a different shade than mine. They were darker, and shined much less than mine did. She was easy on the eyes, I'll give her that.
Turning my whole body towards her, I trotted to her side, where I lowered my rump to sit beside her. "Hello. Is something wrong?" I asked, little care shown in my tone, a stoic mask on my face as I furrowed my brows.
