At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

His lips quirked, hinting faintly of something warm. She was delightful, with her words as sharp as teeth which made him like her all the more. He understood brutality much better than gentleness. It made more sense to him. Passion, anger, lust, love, in every shade of emotion, as strong as oaks and as pure as the night sky. Simply genuine. Because when the world was black and white death was easy. Filius, abandoning the splintered bones of his finished meal, returned to Hestia’s side. He was feeling better with someone else’s blood in his mouth for once. “This has been lovely. Hasn’t it, Hestia?” The sky was fast becoming thunderous, the black clouds spilling over the horizon chasing beach occupants away more efficiently than Deum’s scowl.
“Unfortunately, I can’t stand the rain.” Actually, Filius loved the rain. It wasn’t that he couldn’t stand it, it was that he couldn’t stand in it. Before Hestia, before he’d told anyone that he was dying, he’d been caught in a rainstorm. His coat, weighed down by the relentless downpour, became too heavy for him and he’d ended up spending the night collapsed in a frothing puddle of mud and churned grass. It had been nightmarish. Unable to see beyond the rain and filth, literally bound by his own body and in constant risk of drowning. He couldn’t fight for his life if his life was fighting him. That had been the first time he’d realized helplessness wasn’t a genetic malfunction reserved for the weak and unjust. That his invincibility extended only as far as circumstance allowed.
“I wouldn’t be opposed to you accompanying us, but I’m sure you have something better to do than chase death’s tail.”
BECAUSE I AM THE SUN,
AND I AM THE MOON.
I WILL SWALLOW YOU WHOLE,
I WILL SPIT YOU OUT,
I WILL BURN YOUR EYES,
AND I WILL CAST AN EVERLASTING DARKNESS,
OVER THIS BARREN FUTURE,
THAT YOU CALL HOPE.
