why study history when you can live it?

those who do not learn from history
are doomed to repeat it
Conquistador is quite an interesting foal. He’s so frightened. I look back at him, then trot to his side. I reach down to nibble at his withers. Some part of me was concerned. Was it just the storm? The unfamiliarity of the gulls? Or was it something more?

“Dey’re jus’ squak’n,” I said. I looked up at the sky. The one I chased up had landed again with several of his fellows picking at washed up fish. “Does i’ urd ‘em. ‘Ell, i’ pro’ly does. Bu’ I’ dun ‘urd fer long.” I looked at the gulls. They are loud but I always found them amusing. They were annoying little creatures and quite fun to chase.

I sighed. “Doe, ev’n if’n i’s painfa, i’ won’ s’op ‘em fer long,” I pointed towards the flock. “Day sqwak cause I’ scars off odas. ‘Specialleh dare own kinds. Seeh?” I nodded out at the gathering of gulls as they fought amongst themselves. I looked at Conqustiador.

“Iff’n ya dun wanna chase gulls we can fin’ sum’m else ta do,” I looked at the colt for ideas, playfully nosing him. I just felt that it was important to do something. The kid was far too somber for my taste. Time to liven him up.s
