The Omniety: Round One [OPEN!]
IP: 82.19.140.112

“Well,” Omni says to himself as he appears on top of one of the standing stones in Kingswood Henge, “I’m sure this wasn't here last time.” He begins to rub his hands together as he looks around, bobbing up and down on the balls of his feet in his excitement. “It’s perfect though!” he enthuses, tap-tapping his little cane against the stone as he starts to pace up and down, “absolutely perfect.”

The little man, dressed as before in his emerald green tail coat, somersaults from his current position, arching through the air until his little black shoes sink into the grass below. Omni pulls his waistcoat straight; the brass buckles on his shoes catching the sunlight that seeps in through the canopy of the leaves above his head. Clicking his tongue, Omni walks towards a nearby tree. It is by far the largest in the little clearing, an oak tree with a big thick trunk. He wraps on the bark with his knuckles before pressing his ear against the tree. “Yes, yes,” he muttered to himself, “wonderful, wonderful.” Omni turns away from the oak tree, and his hands begin to glow with a golden light. He claps them together three times.

Anyone in Shaman wearing one of Omni’s pendants from the Cove, wherever they may be, suddenly finds themselves teleported to the Kingswood.

“Welcome intrepid adventurers!” Omni enthuses, tapping the oak tree’s trunk three times with his silver-tipped cane. A crack, glowing the same gold as Omni’s hands begins to snake its way down the bark. Slowly, before the eyes of the gathered faeries, it grows wider, and wider, until it creates a doorway large enough for a fully grown faerie to crawl through. Dandy, absolutely dandy! Triumphant, Omni arrays his hands as though he were a showman presenting merchandise. "This year, this sphere, this here, this here is your size, your prize, but fates grant, not your demise," He gives an encouraging wink. They'll be fine, just fine. "Through this doorway lies a World Between Worlds, a Conservatory of Wonders, the Garden from all mythology and none. If it sounds mysterious, that's because it is, dear children. Even the great Omni cannot tell what you will find when you step into this heartwood."

But he is missing something, what oh what can it be? Oh yes! The object. The goal. "The task this Omniety is simple, the simplest it has ever been, your progression to the second round a mere stretching-out of your hand," He opens his palm, realizes too late the metaphor won't blend seamlessly with what he is about to say, but no matter. He snatches his hand closed anyway and says, "All you need do once you are in your Garden is, find your way out again."

And how hard could that be, most wondrous faerykind? After all, it is so easy to step in... all it takes is a little stroll through the cleft that glows in the broad side of the oak tree. "Hop to it," Omni says, and then he conjures a lawn chair and a bag of kettle corn from thin air and settles down to watch the going-through.

Okay, so here's the lowdown.

When your character (and their familiar, if you wish) steps through the hole in the tree they find themselves in a previously undiscovered 'between' world. A sort of 'secret garden' if you will.

What this world looks like, what lives there and how your character interacts with it are entirely up to you.

Play to your strengths; if you're good at describing things you might want to just have your character explore this new place, or if you prefer writing something more plot driven its a perfect time to send your character on an adventure

Try and take advantage of the setting; what can your character do in this in-between world they might not be able to do on Shaman? The world does not even have to follow the same rules of physics or magic as Shaman or Earth.

When your character arrives in their 'secret garden' the hole in the tree seals itself shut behind them. Your character's aim is to find their way back to Shaman. They can do this in whatever way you like!

You may complete the task in as many posts as you like. You have until 26th March at midnight GMT to do so. Extensions may be granted if they are required for genuine reasons, but please don’t procrastinate and then rely on the extension.

As always with Omniety, the key elements we are looking for are creativity and writing ability (in addition to grammar/spelling etc, this includes how well you are able to execute your idea).

You may withdraw any of your characters at anytime; simply make a post in reply to their name with 'withdraw' as the subject. There is no negative consequence if you fail to complete the task with one or more characters.

All characters who post in the Omniety may keep their Pendant of Omni (it will be added to your bank)

Questions
The admins (Georgia, Merlin & Equilibrium) will keep a log here of any questions we are asked in relation to the task, and we will supply the answers. That way everyone can see them and we're not having to answer the same thing multiple times :)

Is the garden real, and will my character remember being there?
The Garden is 'real' insofar as what happens to your character there does physically happen to them.

Unless you particularly want your character to forget what happened in the Garden, then yes, they can remember it.

If my character meets someone in the garden, is it possible for them to meet them again in Shaman at a later date?
This all very much depends on who and what the character from the garden is. It would probably be best to talk to an admin individually about this to get personal approval for your particular plot. It's not impossible though!
