At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Family. Duty. Honor.

_________________________________________________________________________

The smoky gray brute was tired, He had done his duty for Darcia, had traveled to Cold Summers with Misty and spoken to their unique kalak alphas. Seeing the family of maned wolves had made him miss his own family. He had not seen any of his family in a long time, and he missed them. He doubted he would ever see any of them again. For all he knew they could all be dead, killed any of the large number of lupines that wanted their heads on spikes. He sighed heavily as his large paws crossed over the border into his home. He headed towards his den, hoping for a nice nap before doing some border patrols. Even though he was exhausted his life was dedicated to his pack and he wanted to prove this Darcia, and Iason, and all of his fellow packmates. Summer was not power hungry, never had been and he didn’t want the responsibilities of being an alpha, but he enjoyed pack life and having tasks just made him more driven.

The brute couldn’t stop his thoughts from drifting to his family. He worried especially about his little brother Rickon and his sister Nymeria. They were the youngest and he did not know if they had found someone to take care of them, make sure that they were safe and fed. He knew that Nymeria and their other sister, Lady, had ran off with their father and he could only hope that they were all still safe together. His brother Ghost had left on a special mission and Summer knew that he could take care of himself, yet he still missed his half-brother. Lastly there was Grey Wind and their mother. Grey Wind was the oldest of the group and definitely the strongest and most ambitious. The biggest fear Summer had for them was the enemies he knew Grey Wind could make with his ambitious and often reckless behavior. Rickon was the one he was most worried about though. The youngster had left with Summer and a few other family friends, but the pair had been split up, and Summer felt solely responsible for his younger brother’s safety. He had searched for many moons for his brother, but could not find any trace of him and he feared the worst had happened.

The smoky brute had to force his anxieties away. Worrying would not do anything and he felt he had done everything he could. Now all he wanted was to curl up and forget his emotions, forget his old family, conceal his feelings, he just didn’t want to feel. His hopes for a nice nap were interrupted though by a call from none other than Darcia himself. This was not any call, this was a call specifically for Summer. The brute had last seen the alpha when they had greeted a newcomer at the borders of Bright Moon and Darcia said that he wanted to speak to Summer alone. The brute was not sure what his leader wanted to discuss with him, and it made him slightly nervous. He was not afraid of Darcia exactly, he had to trust whatever leader was before him, but Darcia was still new and Summer was still trying to get to know him, to grow a real trust with his alpha. He knew that Darcia was more than capable of protecting the pack, he had proven that when he defeated the lupine who had challenged him. Summer was surprised there was a challenger so soon after Darcia had started his reign of Bright Moon, but he proved to Summer that he was worthy of the position of alpha. But there was still something about Darcia that made Summer wary of the brute, something that made him feel that he was not a lupine to be messed with.

When Summer heard the call from beyond Bright Moon’s borders he immediately turned on his heels, heading towards the alpha’s call. No matter how tired he was he would never leave his leader waiting, he would do whatever was asked of him whenever it was asked. He broke into a run, not wanting to keep Darcia waiting for him, as he headed towards the call in the direction that appeared to be heading towards Leisure Lake. He enjoyed feeling the wind blow on his fur and he let his tongue fall from his maw in leisure, enjoying the rush for a moment. As he approached the lake he slowed down to a trot, not wanting to come barreling into his leader. When he approached before he could open his maw in greeting the dual-toned titan turned around and started walking away. Summer paused a moment, confused by the alpha’s actions, but followed without question. He was not one to question the motives of others and would always follow his leader.

Summer was surprised when the black brute slowed down his pace to match Summer and opened his maw to speak. The smoky brute was not expecting Darcia to want to tell him his story, where he came from and his past life, so he nodded in understanding, not wanting to interrupt the alpha in his speech, but listened intently to the words. Summer was surprised by the story that Darcia told. The brute could tell that the alpha had some dark sides to him, but he had not expected the harsh upbringing that Darcia described, and Summer felt bad that anyone should ever have to go through that. He was glad to hear that not only him, but also that Iason had escaped, and that the two were much better off now. When Summer’s yellow orbs met Darcia’s multi-hued ones he did not match the pain that Darcia felt, Summer had not gone through a traumatic childhood like his leader had, and his eyes showed sadness, but not empathy. He could not possibly understand what Darcia had been put through, the torment and torture that an upbringing like that could bring, and Summer losing his family was not the same as what the other brute had gone through.

Darcia continued on, explaining how he would put his life before the others in the pack and Summer believed his words. He did not think Darcia would have called Summer privately to make up a tale about his past and then lie about his loyalties. Summer nodded his head in appreciation, not great with words about such things as life and death, and he hoped that Darcia would understand the meaning of his gesture. When the alpha asked him to share his own story, Summer felt like there was no way he could refuse, and how could he with the story that Darcia had just shared with him?

Summer sighed, nervous about speaking the words out loud for the first time. He had never shared this story with anyone, not that is was as upsetting as Darcia’s, but no one had ever asked. ”Thank you Darcia, for sharing that with me and for your loyalty to the pack. I originally pledged my loyalty to Tamlin when I arrived, but I am now loyal only to you and the others of Bright Moon. As for me, I came from a family of royalty. I have two brothers, two sisters, and a half-brother as well. We were all very close, our parents kind and loving, but we lived in the times of war, and most of us had to flee. My mother left with my oldest brother, Grey Wind, to go off and lead the armies and fight for our home. My father with my two sisters, Lady and the younger one, Nymeria, left for what was supposed to be a safer area under a strong pack. Those two are the prime example of opposites.” He spoke his last sentence with a grin, remembering his quarreling sisters well as he watched his paws as he continued to walk along. ”My half-brother, Ghost, left on his own to join another group to help defend not only our pack but other neighboring packs that lived nearby. And my youngest brother, Rickon, he left with me and a few family friends. We…we got separated and it’s entirely my fault. He was too young to take care of himself and I have no idea what has happened to him. I searched for as long as I could, but could never find even the faintest trace of him. I’ve given up on ever seeing any of them again, for all I know they could all be dead, and I wasn’t there to protect any of them. I failed my family in ways that can never be forgiven.”

At his last words Summer paused his speech, trying to hide his emotions from the alpha next to him. He felt asked for getting so emotional when Darcia had gone through such traumatic events without showing the emotions that Summer was. ”I’m sorry to get so emotional, I know much worse has happened to you and Iason. I’ve just never spoken about my family out loud before, no one’s ever asked where I came from or anything.” With ears laid back to his head he finally raised his head to meet Darcia’s gaze, worried to see what his leader thought of him showing such emotion, afraid that he would look down with scorn and annoyance upon him.
