Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesSwans

I heard yesterday from Bill Chirpaugh in Victoria Road that a swan with yellow wing tags (so presumably a trumpeter) has been around for at least a couple of days. Bill says there's another swan that has been there all winter. I'm speculating that it's the last of the trumpeter brood from the Talbot River marsh. The parents were down to one cygnet the last time I saw them in early fall. I wondered at the time if there was something wrong with the young one. Perhaps it can't fly -- but it's hung in all winter, so a tough bird! The swans could most likely be seen from the north bridge out of Vic Rd. on CKL 35.
