Gimp is fantastic! Haha I just wanted to make sure before I tried to throw out my sucky advice ^__^
1. Your wolfie is lovely and you did a good job of pasting him onto your chosen background. What I like to do, after erasing all the gross edges around my wolf, is to take the smudge tool and blend outward from his body, as if you're painting fur. That way there isn't a blurry halo around his form.
2. I noticed the subject has a handsome blue-black coat! While it looks awesome, it seems a little out of place on that not-so-blue background. Since I'm lazy, I consider running that whole picture through a filter of some kind (there are cool ones on befunky.com). Messing with the overall color saturation might help the wolf look like he belongs there. :)
3. Experiment with Gaussian blur, which is under the filter tab in the blur section. It also helps stuff blend.
