Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

I can hear the male behind me following all the way to the den though once we're there, he seems a lot more hesitant. I watch warily as he rolls Zeteri gently off his back and settles the pup down next to the one I was carrying. He almost looks like he's about to bolt when I tell him to start cleaning the puppies and asks if he's the father. I swear for a minute it looks like he's going to try to make something up but something stops him and finally he mumbles that he is and that he can try cleaning them. I can't help but smirk a little in amusement but watch him as he goes toward the pups, determined to make him be a good father and take care of his children.

He starts cleaning the boy who whines and cries and it takes every fiber of strength in me not to go to him to see what he's doing wrong because I know he needs to learn one way or another and I know that he's not really hurting him, just maybe being a bit too rough with the cleaning. At his question, I glance up at him, my gaze patient.

"They cry for comfort, for safety and when they're young and helpless like this, yes, they cry a lot. You, as a parent, must learn how to make them feel safe, how to soothe their fears so this world doesn't seem so scary."

Giving him a reassuring smile despite everything, I go back to tending to Zeteri, doing my best to stop the bleeding or at least slow it down before rubbing some aloe on her to help ease the muscles that will be sore when she wakes up. I can hear him licking the girl behind me now and she's oddly silent but I already know what this means. When he asks about the girl, I can hear the genuine concern and it gives me higher hopes for the male. He does care about them, even if he tries not to. I part my lips to answer but another does before I can. I turn my head, protective of Zeteri but when I see who it is, my hackles lower and my tail gives a wave of welcome. I know that Alias has been working closely with Zeteri and I know she trusts her.

My features soften, knowing that Alias is right. The puppy is mute. I watch as she walks over to Zeteri, checking on her and whispering something in her ear before she asks if she'll be okay under my care. I smile in assurance.

"She'll recover well enough, Alias. She's a strong girl."

I know that Alias will agree whole heartedly. Her attention strays to the male as he cleans the pups, circling him and I can see the untrusting look in her eyes. Finally she returns to Zeteri, speaking softly to her some more before she turns back to the male and tells him to see how it's done. I watch with approval as she starts cleaning the boy, telling the male how he should be proud of the children. My ears flicker in slight puzzlement though when she calls Zeteri her daughter. I didn't know they were related. I lower my gaze, putting things together. I don't know if this is something Alias wouldn't have wanted me to think of but I knew of the other packs, Paracon among them and I know this is where Zeteri was born. I also know of her parents, the king of Paracon, Devil, who now resides in Diveen, and his mate and Beta, Kiska. She was Zeteri's mother. Could that mean...?

I glance up at Alias, the questioning look in my eyes for her alone though whether she chooses to look away or let me know that I am correct, that will be her decision. I won't pry and that is her business. I'm only observing and listening, after all. She turns back to the male, questioning his motives and I turn my own attention as well, wanting to know his answer.

Around this time, Zeteri starts to come around. I can see the trust in her eyes as she looks at Alias and again I wonder just how close they are then she looks at the male and something flashes. I see her hackles rise and I back off, giving her space cause I know the look of a protective mother. When she asks for her children, I go to grab the one Alias isn't cleaning, gently lying it next to Zeteri and leaving her to calm down. Only when she lies back down do I venture closely, talking as soothingly as possible to help ease her fears while I continue tending to her.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
