why study history when you can live it?

those who do not learn from history
are doomed to repeat it
Summers on Atlantis seemed to be warm and lazy. Well, as long as the hurricanes pound away at the shore to the north and not here in Paradise. One or two a season is fine; you know, the storms really do tend to pass the Paradise. At least, for the most part. I let out a sigh and rubbed my head against Sahin. I reached out to nibble along his withers as the sunlight played with shadows and palm trees.

I let out a sigh as he admitted to me how attached he was to Mera. The girl was a sweetheart, that was certain. But a mare had to explore her own way. She had to find a stallion and herd of her own and could not forever be with her family. It was the way of the world.

According to my momma.

Me? I still think exploring is important. It’s good to know your options.

“She’s grow’n up,” I nodded. “Da’ much i’s clea’. Day all do ‘vensialleh.” I looked over at Xina with her two children. I was jealous of her of course. I had wanted to have a happy herd life - but Rurisk (still so weird to think he had a name) was not the type for me. I looked at the palomino next to me and I reached over to rest my head on his back.

“Ah miss mah daud’er,” I admitted. “As muc’ as weh faugh’, sheh wuz alwaehs fun da watch. Doe…” I looked at Sahin. I remembered my trip with Conquistador across the debris-littered beach the other. I wanted another kid. “Maehbeh, dis place dun ‘ave da beh empdee o’ col’s er fillehs.”

I smiled, though I don’t know if he could see it.

“Day always cula da world sa differen’leh,” there was not evil known to the young. The only vice they seemed to run into was parents who didn’t want to play. Perhaps Xina would have another kid and siblings could grow up together. The idea of an extended family certainly played out well in my mind.
