three - no love - no imprint - spirane aquila
The heterochromatic amber and split amber-blue eyes of the white youth flicked to the waving tail in response to the name and Noel had his answer even before the nod and verbal confirmation. Upon hearing his own, Noel turned his gaze back to Nootau's face and nodded in return. It was a perfectly logical assumption, given the recent tasks MoonGlow had set for them, and a correct one at that. Not to mention, but the wolf
had just been bellowing for him. It... made sense.
As Nootau placed himself beside Noel and sat, the white wolf remained standing, charcoal muzzle turning to follow the other male's movements. It did occur to him that, perhaps, he should sit too - that is was the sort of thing you were expected to do, to express comfort in the presence of someone willing to drop their guard around you. But Noel found himself thinking he was much more comfortable standing at the moment, and so he would. Stand. Because it just seemed like the thing to do at that time. His head tilted lightly to the side as Nootau voiced the very thoughts which had crossed his mind a few minutes back and his eyes narrowed in contemplation on such a thing. Funny, wasn't it? Or odd. Certainly amusing, how two strangers such as themselves shared an opinion straight down to the very word.
Of course, Nootau wouldn't know of their common denominator, as Noel, despite all his thought on the subject, hadn't thought to voice such a thing. He hadn't thought to voice much of anything, but then again, conversing wasn't exactly his specialty. He was... working on that. Or so he told himself. But observing other pack members speaking to one another wasn't as helpful as one might think. The study turned up information, but it still left him with little experience. And experience was everything, wasn't it? Well, what better time was there than the present?
"I could... do with a spar," Noel returned passively, the natural tone of his voice rather gentle and soft. He may have sounded uncertain with the odd little spacing thrown right in the middle of his words, but it was unintentional. In fact, he was quite honest in saying he could use a spar. Since Alcide had stepped down and became less than active and Taliesin had set his sights on
Orion rather than
Aquila, the boy's regular training sessions had all but ceased in these past few months. If he was being honest with himself, the inactivity was grating. He liked to be busy, to have a schedule. It kept him from dwelling on the less than pleasant parts of his life... Like MoonGlow's challenge and the possibility of being displaced yet again.
Noel was eager to push such a subject out of his mind and hastily trotted over to the other side of the clearing, his long legs covering the distance in no time at all. He pivoted to face Nootau across the small space, his body lowering into a guarded stance. The eyes which set on Nootau spoke of a seriousness, that this wasn't merely a game to the younger wolf. As much as Noel enjoyed his training and sparring with others, he took to it with a sense of professionalism that was beyond his years. And with so much time since his last session, he didn't want to waste any more time than necessary to begin this one.
"When you're ready," he said, the words still spoken with that passive calm. He watched Nootau closely, studying him with an excitement that pulsed under his placid exterior. He had spent so much time training with Alcide and Tal that he had picked up on some of their habits and learned some of their "tells". They had patterns and they were similar in their approach, probably because it had been Alcide who had trained Taliesin to begin with. But Nootau, he was something completely
new. He was an opportunity, and that in itself was quite thrilling.
