It would have been polite for Natu to simply heed the female's wishes. To walk off into the morning as if she had never seen the obsidian girl but her heart had, for a moment, grow full and hopefully. Natu's disappointment is a bitter taste at the back of her throat. Sometimes she wishes that she could forget the past, erase the memories of love and pain so that she can begin anew, but time does not move backwards and memories do not simply vanish. They are what make a person or wolf what they are, however much one wishes they were not.

Maud is unlike any other youth she has encountered before. Rather than an instinctive need to play she emits a somewhat silenced version of hostility. Not that she overtly assumes the role of dominance Natu can feel the shift beginning in Maud. Mayhap it is the minute furs that rise in response or the gentle twist of her lips. She has not aged so that she can be foolish and unobservant. But she has already spoken and she will wait for an answer. Maud may not want her there. She can resent her presence all she wants but Natu is nothing if not persistent - it is a mother's instincts, the needs to figure out the younger generation.

A bird swoops down low, its feet reaching out to brush against the fur lining Natu's back and her ear flicks back but her cerulean eyes stay fixed on Maud's countenance. What does this creature plan? There is no outward sign of what is going on in the mind of such a wolf. Her grin seems false, a pacifying gesture that belies a different meaning and she cannot figure it out. Her mind is still clouded and shoving the haunting memories away is easier said than done.

Solitude. A simple thing to ask for. She almost feels guilty for stealing it away from Maud except that Maud does not seem the type to mourn a lost chance. Not that Natu was an expert on this foreign wolf. Natu sighs gently. "It is not solitude I seek but the chance to explore and wander. Are you of the same spirit? There is much to see in this land that I have not had the chance to before."
