Prissy little thing, isn't she? The female holds eye contact with Cade, a gesture which usually means challenge. My hackles bristle in protest. I just returned from fighting a challenger. Even with my hip, I won't hesitate to step in for round two. I bet her blood tastes sweet and satisfying. I see flickers of amusement in her gaze and while Cade may see fit to look back at her with no retaliation, where I come from, eye contact is punishable by death.
The princess then resumes to grin at Cade like she's telling a funny joke to something. What kind of pack respect is this? She comes here, asking for shelter and gives grins and amusing looks in return? I don't know what kind of pack harbored her before but they didn't have proper etiquette to teach her manners for meeting a pack alpha. My ears prick at her name. Thalian. A pawn? This is no game of chess. I'm sure Cade won't mind the word play but I'd rather she gets to the point.
When I arrive, she barely gives me a glance. I don't mind that so much. It's not like I try to be the center of attention or anything. She needs to be paying Cade more respect. That's the real reason I'm here. At my question, she turns into a smartass, my ears flickering in surprise. One lip curls up, flashing a canine at her but otherwise I remain silent. I watch her hair bristle and my own lifts more in response. Come on, bitch, bring it. Otherwise step down and pay your dues.
I can see the distaste in her eyes. I don't know if it's me or just the male gender in general but there are other ways to handle that rather than showing it. She could have ignored me altogether and it would have been a more wise action. All she's doing is showing Cade that she can't get along with other pack members. How is that convincing to accept her into a pack? You must be a pack animal to survive in one. A lone wolf can only go so far. I would know, since I played the lone wolf for a long time. It was all I knew before Godric left me. He showed me how to survive alone but he also told me that I would not be able to survive this way for long. Pack blood runs in the veins of all wolves, even our kind.
In response to her comment about salve, I snort.
"Don't worry about me, Thalian. I'll be just fine."
Let that get under her skin some. I know her comment was not made out of concern for my wellbeing but I choose to treat it as such for my own entertainment. With a sigh, she turns her attention back to Cade, asking her to use her as she sees fit. My nostrils twitch. Maybe she's one of those odd females who likes her own gender. Maybe I'll get to see some girl on girl flirtations or something in the near future. Could be amusing, I guess. At her question to Cade, I tilt my head, turning my icy blues to the alpha to see how she responds.
I note the look Cade gave my hip as I moved toward them. I ventured to give her a glance back with a raised brow, the hint of a smirk on my lips. What? Forget already about my injuries? When the girl responds, Cade actually laughs, causing another stir of humor in my eyes. She must think this girl is hilarious. Well, whoopdy do. Maybe they'll be BFFs by the end of the day. When she nudges my shoulder, I set my jaw tightly. I know she only did it as an acknowledging gesture but any sort of weight on one side throws the weight to the other which results in an aching side and a throbbing hip. Thanks a lot, doll.
I do notice something flickering in the red and white queen's eyes but it's gone in a flash. I can still practically see the wheels turning in her pretty little head, causing my own head to tilt a bit in intrigue. What's she's thinking about now? She answers that question soon enough, telling the girl to etiher hunt something down for me or offer herself instead. My eyes widen a bit at this before setting my gaze back on the girl in question with interest. My tongue licks at my lips, flashing my fangs at her before covering them back up. Oh yes, I like this idea.
Of course that distraction is just what Cade wanted becuase before I have a chance to catch on, she slams her weight full force into my hip, causing me to stumble to the side, almost falling as a roar bursts from my lungs. My ears flatten, my teeth showing in a full fledged snarl now as I snap at the air, not actually wanting to lunge at Cade but Fenris, I need to bite something! The throbbing slowly subsides to a dull ache now that the hip is back in place, my hip bruised but otherwise in better shape than it was to begin with, not that that helps my mental state any. I curse under my breath as the snarls finally fade, my breath coming in fast shallow breaths as if I was just running a mile.
Knowing that I still have two probably highly amused females watching, I finally look back up, my pupils dilated with pain but I set them on the girl first.
"Bring your kill to my den. I'll be waiting."
Turning my back on her, I start limping past Cade, tip toeing on my bad leg now, feeling it out since I know it won't hurt nearly so bad. As I brush past Cade, I lean in close, my whisper smooth as honey.
"And you won't have long to wait on me, sweetheart. I'll find you."
Breathing into her ear, I pull away and limp past, heading toward my den. Damn women.
