PADDLING WITH PTSD Edmonton to Winnipeg

Trevor Petersen returned from Afghanistan and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In the following year, he was deemed incapable of functioning within the military. Trevor enrolled in the rehabilitation program while awaiting his release. His attempts at gaining employment were continuously failing leading to a downward spiral. In 2010, Trevor was release from the military.

Trevor learned how to paddleboard and he found it therapeutic and fun. Then in the summer of 2013, he was deemed incapable of being employable due to his injury. His desire to be a productive member of society and his love of paddleboarding were the deciding factors for raising awareness and funds for Wounded Warriors Canada. Also, Trevor wishes to inspire others suffering with PTSD to strive for a better and more fulfilling life.

“Paddling with PTSD” the Prairies is journey on a Stand-Up Paddleboard leaving on July 1, 2014, from Sir Wilfred Laurier Park, Edmonton, AB. He will be utilizing a Fur Trading Route consisting of the North Saskatchewan River and the lake systems to the Forks in Winnipeg, MB.

The expedition will be accomplished in 1½ months or more, depending on weather, water conditions. Trevor will be paddling solo. A land support vehicle will accompany him throughout his journey. Trevor will be self-sufficient for a day or more on his paddleboard. He wants to be authentic as the original Fur Traders.

Skilled kayakers, canoeist and paddleboarders are invited to join him starting in Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, paddling to Capilano Boat Launch. We welcome skilled paddlers who wish to show support by accompanying Trevor on any portion of the journey.
