Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

it is to judge and to be judged, to dream and to accept

There was much of Moladion that I had not yet seen. It was possible that this was because I was often time content with simply exploring my home. Glorall was a vast territory, and there were pieces of the land I had yet to conquer. Like the illusive island. But that would be for another day’s investigation, maybe after I had seen every grain of sand on the long coastline of our home. Today was not that day. Rather I had decided to venture east. There was much to see, much to learn. I knew better than to venture within Iromar’s borders. But even from a distance I found the waters that trickled through the swamp intriguing. It was a different kind of water than the crystalline liquid that lapped against the shores of Glorall. I paused along the bend of the river that extended beyond Iromar’s borders, studying the creeping motion of the water towards the sea. Exuding a soft huff, I continued on my way, skirting the edge of the pack land.

Eventually, or rather almost suddenly, I found myself standing on the banks of the river. The heavy scent of the leader of Iromar no longer barred me from it, and I leapt forward. My toes were at the edge of the river and I leaned forward, staring into the water. It moved quicker here than it did in Iromar. But it still was not as quick as the wide stream that separated Glorall from Diveen. After a moment, I lowered my maw and lapped at the water, testing its taste. I was pleased to find it was not salty, like the waters along our shores at home. Content with my findings, I rocked backwards and rested upon my haunches, simply watching the water before me. I wondered why it was that the waters here and to the north of our home tasted so fresh and delicious, while the water along the coast had that brackish flavor to it.

As I contemplated this, a movement in the corner of my eye caught my attention. I lifted my grey hooded crown and looked for the source of my distraction. It was a black pup, rooting around in the grass and weeds. She seemed to be looking for something, and so I did not interrupt her. I didn’t want to distract her from her hunt for whatever it was she sought. Instead I simply watched her. But maybe I could help her find whatever she was looking for? Glancing back to the river, I decided there wasn’t much more I could figure out about its taste today. I looked back to the pup as he drew closer to me. I wondered if she had seen me yet, and decided instead of let her stumble upon me I would stand up and let my presence be known. Lifting to my feet, I assumed a friendly posture. My tail wagged out behind me, and my ears were pricked towards her with interest. Rather than call out a greeting to her, I wished to simply show her that I was amicable before I offered to help her. Why waste my words if they weren’t required? After all, what if she didn’t return the gesture?
