finally (for now), this week may 19th - 25th is deaf awareness week. deafness may be something that people are aware of existing, but my experience from working with the public indicates that not very many people actually know how to communicate with people with hearing impairments. hearing impairments are actually quite common; as many as 1 in 10 people are believed to have tinnitus, which is a constant ringing sound in the ears.
i'm rambling. anyway for deaf awareness week, i though i'd share this resource with you all. when i talk about my hearing impairment the thing which interests most people is my ability to lipread, and many people express an interest in wanting to learn how to do it themselves. the link below is a free online resource which teaches you how to lipread. if nothing else, it's worth glancing over for creative inspiration :)
