I am the Jack and you are my Box

Fly had watched her daughter explore the workings of her legs and had just closed her eyes with a happy smile when the filly latched on. Eyes snapping open with a small squeal as Stardust first began nursing it felt weird to the mare and she wasn’t quite sure about it. With a snort she finally began to get used to it when Soljor appeared. At first the mother was startled and pinned her ears, jutting out her nose nastily in warning. It was only when she realized it was the father of the child at her side that she relaxed and allowed her ears to raise from her skull.

“Soljor” Fly breathed a heavy sigh of relief at seeing the stallion. No longer did the mare worry about danger and the tension that had been coiled beneath her skin visibly relaxed. “You have a beautiful daughter named Stardust.” She said, reaching over to gently nudge the filly but not hard enough to knock her over. “She has impeccable timing doesn’t she?” Fly asked as she looked back to the stallion. Never before did the mare think she would give birth during a hail storm.

Since she could not lead the child away from the birth she had arrived in due to the storm, Fly moved a little bit away from it and eased herself down onto the cave floor. It was not ideal with the stone being so cold but the bay mare could not help it. She was exhausted and her back legs ached from the whole ordeal. Reaching over she gave a cleaning lick to Stardust whom she had been careful not to knock over. Perhaps the child would inspect her father while Fly rested so that the new mother could simply rest.
