The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

It was a bad time to be out of Iromar apparently. She had only been there a short stint and decided it was time to get out in search of some.. better prey. The stork she had eaten had tasted delicious with its tender, flaky meat, minus the feathers that had refused to leave even with her violent jerking and tearing and spitting. Gators were not really her ideal solution to a meal. Tracking the little critters of Iromar was albeit impossible without stepping into some nasty marsh. For a few moments of complete and utter grumpiness Aithne had wondered why the hell she had chosen to stay there, then she remembered that she preferred the solitude it offered. The chance to stay out of the way of a billion pack members. It was easy to hide among the ghastly swamplands betwixt the curling thin trees and draping moss.

She hadn't thought to check the weather. Not like they had a news channel or anything or a seer to predict weather patterns but if she had paid attention to the skyline upon leaving the overhanging density of Iromar she might have noticed the way the sky had darkened ominously. The way the breeze began to swirl with a definite chill to it. Instead she had taken a blessing in the cooler weather as a reprieve from the extreme heat of the past few days. The other wildlife, however, was a bit more observant as it seemed rather impossible to find any prey-like soul wandering through the woods or meadows. It was damn frustrating is what it was. When she had arrived here Aithne had been overwhelmed by the magnitude of life within Moladion. The land from whence she had come was nothing like this place. It had not teemed with life; it had sucked the life from every soul on it's soil.

The storm front moved with a swiftness that was almost preternatural. Before she knew it roiling clouds had settled overhead and a clap of extremely loud thunder jolted her to awareness. Red ears tipped forward as she lifted her deep emerald gaze to the sky. The wind had become harsh, punishing. The rustle of leaves was not amiable as it had been before. It was furious and screeching. Limbs creaked and cracked beneath the assault and a bolt of lightning speared the sky above. Well. There went her day of pleasant fullness that she had hoped for.

Her heart began to beat swift as another clap of thunder shook the forest. The clouds began to swirl swiftly around and around and DOWN. She had never before seen the formation of a tornado nay, she had never heard of one before. So she stepped out of the treeline to the meadow to see what exactly was happening. Was this some trick of the eye? The wind grasped billows of her thick black fur and yanked yet Aithne was not a delicate female; her body was built with strength in each contour, muscles pressed tight against skin and she did not budge.

A roar had begun to fill the air and raindrops trickled with a fierce sting into the earth. And suddenly the tornado had fallen wide across the meadow; it screamed it's rage and she stared in fascinated horror as the earth began to churn. Sticks, grass, dirt, and even a red fox were suddenly flung up savagely into the air and throw away. Now the rain came down in a sudden onslaught, obscuring things, and Aithne knew what it was to feel a real sense of terror. It was so stabbing that her gut churned as her body spun around and sprinted off towards the direction of the cave system.

The tornado ripped and roared behind her, tearing through the trees with echoing sounds of trunks thwacking into other trunks. As she ran with a speed born from fear she couldn't help but notice the wildlife that sprinted around her in their own state of panic, seeking to get out of the path of such a violent apparition. A limb appeared out of nowhere and soundly thunked her across her hips; Aithne yelped, the pain intense. The bruising there would be fierce and she would be lucky not to spy a gash on her but she hadn't the time to check. Onward she flew until the mouth of a cave opened up. There would be the possibility of flooding the deeper she went but staying out here was a worse fate for the moment so she ran in to the safety where others might too take their leave.
