Mink padded through the heat and humidity with more than a few cubs trailing behind her. The little one had been growing antsy at home, so to tire her out, the wolf had decided to have her family on a walk across the mountain territories to a place she had not been in a very long time. The lot usually wasn't too difficult to deal with, but today their bickering had nearly drove Mink out of her mind. She had declared this a family outing that was required by all of her pups. Though a few of their half siblings also tagged a long, which wasn't surprising. In Ubu's little harem, the females tended to care for one another's young and Mink tried her best to care for everybody she could.

The outing was long overdue, and was finally scheduled when Mink's only son died. She needed space from the suffocating ash and despair of Fire Pack and the watchful eye of it's Alpha. Her usual helper, Curiosity was absent today, as she was off doing her own thing, exploring the mountain territories on her own despite Mink's request for her to join them. Joanne, however, reluctantly tagged along. On a good day, Joanne was full of snarky remarks and crude comments but with Rueben tailing behind the pack, she kept herself in check. He wasn't one of hers, but Mink appreciated having Rue around even if he was untrusting of her abilities to parent. He gave off a calming aura, much unlike most of her other pups.

Not only was she playing follow the leader with a dozen adolescents, she was also totting around even more pups in her heavily pregnant stomach. Though the heavy feeling of pups in her stomach had become familiar to her, this time around was especially painful. There were definitely quite a few pups in there, a fact that would have been good news to any other mother. But tired of having to constantly nurse and care over pups, Mink feared the evident birthing that would happen any day now. She tried not to think about it too much.

Rueben walked quietly behind everybody else as they made their way towards the River. He had offered to go on this trip in hopes to bond with his family a bit. He hadn't been around often due to the increasing number of puppies his father produced. Puppies made him uncomfortable and back at home there was certainly a great deal of them. Instead, Rueben found his own den where he trained and went on patrols to keep busy. He of course always made himself available if his family ever needed him, but the brute preferred to keep his distance. Rue's companion, Rydler flew overhead to keep an eye on the group and make sure nobody wandered off. His other dragon remained at his den, having slept in too late to join them. The brute would have appreciated the extra set of eyes, though. He didn't exactly trust Mink to watch all of the pups at once. She was a good mother, but still very young. She was watching his siblings too, and while she had proved his doubts about her wrong time and time again, he wasn't about to leave the fate of his siblings in her paws.

As they arrived at the River, Mink lowered herself onto her haunches, smiling in triumph. After a quick head count and a nice long stretch, she nodded to the group. "Well, we made it!" The mother released a breath of relief. "Somebody take Sissy into the water, but only the shallow parts, alright? Don't let her walk into the current because she won't know any better. And Rueben, please do another head count, just to double check, I don't want anybody getting lost in these parts." Mink began spouting off a roll call, checking and double checking everybody was accounted for before the chaos began.
