aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

Seconds pass, and then minutes. Time stands still as he waits in the clearing upon the stone that is in essence his throne. His maw twitches into a frown as he waits, wondering if it had been a mistake to call for his Queen. Was their relationship truly through? Was she gone from him forever? Was he once more the sole leader of Aurora Borealis, leading a single, lonely life? Hanging his head, he made the decision to leave at the end of the next minute if she did not appear… but then a sound pricked in the dense woods surrounding the clearing and his cranium raised, his arctics searching in the darkness for her form. Though he had his doubts as to whether or not she would come to him, Zig does indeed heed his call. She arrives before him soaked, no doubt by crossing the river – had she been near their den? Had she been spending her nights near him even though she had not been spending them with him? Zig approaches his slowly, reaching up and nuzzling him. Her features are confused and curious, and opening for the words that Kalgalath has to say. The questions. The demands.

She acts as if nothing is wrong. And that pains him… the king backs up, turning, and leaps from the top of the rock so that he stands upon the same earth she does, but he does not go to her side. Instead, he remains a cautious distance from her, eyeing her warily. In front of the pack, he had accepted her back because it was the right thing to do. Holding the pack together and the greater good was his first priority… but in his heart there were too many questions.

It is an eternity of gazing upon her before finally his vocals broke the silence of the night. “We need to talk.” His voice trembles and he realizes this is the first time in the longest of times that someone has seen him vulnerable. Weak. “You left the pack I entrusted to you. You left the daughter that you swore you would see as your own. You… you left me.” His words get softer and his gaze shifts away as emotions choke up his throat, stealing the volume from his words until they faded into a whisper. His jowls tremble and he swallows, attempting to regain control. There are questions he has to ask. He needs to know the answers if they are to move past this.

You left right after I told you I wanted to make love to you and sire pups with you… why? I felt so broken afterward as if I had said something wrong. I felt as if that was something you did not want, and then wondered if you even wanted Blayre. She grew up without a mother, something I had promised her would not happen…” He leaves her no time to answer as he continues, his monologue escaping faster and it is an unstoppable noise now. “Why did you leave me? Do you even love me? You did to me what Nika did, how could you? And then you return without a word as to why… and then you disappear yet again? I know you have been within the boundaries but you have not been with me. You have not been with Blayre. Why have you been avoiding me altogether? Surely you knew this discussion would come eventually… and how can you act as if nothing is wrong? We are broken and if we are going to remain together… if you are mine and I am yours… we need to figure this out. If we are going to fix this and I am going to forgive you… I need answers. And I need them now before the sun signals the start of another day.” Finally, his maw shuts and the silence that surrounds them is impregnable and oppressive. It is not the comfortable silence that used to surround them when they did not need words. Their relationship had regressed… and he didn’t know if they were going to be able to move past this. “I don’t know how to trust you anymore…
