Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

how long will we blame the devils on our shoulders

Perhaps he is surprised for I would not fault him if he were. I am by nature a reclusive being and yet the hunt is something I cannot turn down: it is the pulsating of flesh beneath my teeth and the air thick with blood. I am sure it is what had called for Anselm, what had lured him away from the pack though... we do, I believe, hunt a different sort of prey. It is clear enough to all by now, surely, that beyond the act of hunting... so few of them hold my interest. Solaris is ever the gentleman. He will not mention it and for that I am glad. I would prefer, I think, a more simple form of company this day.

"You will earn yours soon enough."

I shrug the comment off though the seriousness remains like a scent in the air: he knows the time will come now. If they compare his own marks to a new sun then I can only ponder as to whether they are truly ready for a new dawn. He will earn them and I will be the one to award them to him if I must - they will all see soon. They will see that with him, they are better off. Taviora knows this already. I cannot help but crease my lips into the smallest smile, taking a place closer to him as I obseve our surroundings. It is most undesirable to be within a pack at times. They have ears and eyes where ears and eyes should not be... and rules, strict legislation, to guard them. Of course, we are assured in our knowledge of our birth tongue at least. They may repeat the words but they will never taste their meanings.

He speaks then of his mother - his brother - and my eyes slide towards him suspiciously. It is of no surprise, of course. As much as his family prides their blood, they are willing to give it to any and all, bringing life into a world that needs so much fewer. But Solaris? My eyes narrow and I nod, allowing him to continue as I consider this. Why would she desire children from him? Have they grown suspicious, perhaps? Do they believe children will mend the holes in the world or that they can distract another with them? My lip pulls up over my tooth in a crooked, amused smile.

"Family... children... mates... they are not all the same. There are other goals in this world. Those that seek only one thing are fools. What makes a child of yours any different to a child of another?"

I pause, turning completely then to face him, my eyes boring into his own.

"Blood is nothing. It need not spread without true purpose. Tell your mother that - let her think on such things."

Silence bites at us then and I am unsure... did I tell him what he needed to hear? Females, after all, are good for many things, their company enjoyable but... children? Mates? Why? Many aim only for that and stop when it is serves before them. I do not wish to see Solaris stop. As for I... I turn away in thought. Family is so little, after all. Mother has been there, yes, but truly she sees us only as additions to herself, guardians and watchdogs for her own intentions. Brother and sister are nothing but those born of the same womb, the same mother and nothing more. They do not seek me and I seek nothing but Anselm's wretched toy. Father? Perhaps I was born only from my mother's wickedness. Family is but a word constructed of syllables. It is only a concept that exists in the minds of others.

And then I see her. I remember her, this girl of black and white. I remember her well and so I stare into her, observing the age that has built up in her face. It is a strange thing, females like she and Boleyn: I desire to be with them and yet I desire so little more. I wish to teach them of this new world, this budding change that Solaris brings. I wonder if that is close to wanting family.

"Only desire. For what, I do not know."

I answer, then, Solaris though my eyes remain on the girl. It takes me a moment before I glance back to Solaris, sliding my eyes towards her with a curiosity. She had come from Diveen and yet I had never learnt her name.

"Come -" I call back to her, beckoning her forward with a crooked smirk - "do you know this girl, Solaris? She is one of them: so few I truly enjoy and yet, here one is."

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
