and the rest is rust and stardust

Yes, between the two of them Pilar was reasonably confident that they would have a good chance at deciphering the markings. Magnus knew the ones from the Bay well, and she had studied the ones here. With their combined efforts, they certainly stood a chance. In her opinion, it was always better to work together than on one’s own. Certainly if she had designed the markings, she would have made it so they had to be deciphered by a team and not by a single soul. She mulled over this idea in her head—maybe once they figured out what these markings were for, Magnus and Pilar could leave something behind of their own.

“Did you decide to stay at the Bay then?” Pilar asked, starting to walk along the path to the caves. “I mean, Soljor didn’t seem to happy about us being there at first. Did you change his mind with your charms?” Pilar reached over and nipped playfully at his mane as she walked alongside him. She was half kidding, though she certainly did see Magnus as a particularly charming stallion. If he did indeed convince Soljor to let him stay, she was also interested in how exactly he went about doing that. Sure, charms worked on mares, but how did a stallion convince another stallion to trust them?

It was yet another mystery that Pilar hoped Magnus would help her solve.
