aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The fate that was soon to come to Aurora Borealis was not a pleasant one, nor one he would ever have wished upon any of the inhabitants. His pack members were not just soldiers or members to him. They were his family, his friends… he was very protective of them and wished nothing ill to befall them – be it famine, plague, war, or strife. But it seemed that Kalgalath would not be able to protect them from what was about to come. When he had taken Zig as his mate, he had thought that it had been in the best interests of everyone involved. He loved her, and she loved him. But more than that, she had been a member of this pack for a long time… and it would rally the pack together to see that he had taken as his Queen a femme who loved Aurora Borealis in her heart. She was supposed to become a mother for Blayre, one to give the little princess all the love she deserved. Kalgalath himself had grown up with two loving parents and did not want it to be any other way for Blayre. It had seemed the best idea at the time. And for a while, they had been happy. Their relationship had been all that she had hoped it would be. But then Zig had gone and ruined it… ruined it all. Her unexplained absence had left him in despair, and then upon her return, she had delivered to him angry words, not explanations.

Kalgalath growled loudly as he thought about what had happened next… the betrayal that had slipped from her maw. This is my home and I will NOT step down. If anyone deserves this place, it’s surely not you. That dappled bitch had dared to say that to him… after he had been crowned King – by the vote of the rest of the pack, no less – he had gone on to fight and bleed to defend his crown and his pack. When he had returned, Zig had not even embraced him, asked him what was wrong, or tended to his wounds. None of this… just a nod. One nod was all Kalgalath had received from the supposed love of his life. He had felt like he was chopped liver in comparison to just about every in Zig’s eyes.

Life had continued on thus that he had come upon his daughter, Blayre, and his son Aindreas, the prior one injured and the latter clearly overly protective of her… there had been a stranger who had been revealed to be Cody, and then Zig. Zig had been rude and turned on Aindreas, comforting and even embracing Cody. Kalgalath’s words had been swift, and he had brought to a point the issue first and foremost. He had told Zig that she had to leave. Permanently. She was his mate no longer, his ruling Queen no longer. What was yet to be seen was if she would challenge him for his position. He had no fear of battling her – only a sinking heart. He did not wish to fight her, but this was his pack. He would do whatever was necessary to protect them.

Magic had expressed to him her desire to meet with him, and so they had agreed to patrol the boundary together. There was a reason Magic was his Beta – she was the one he trusted most. She was his second-in-command. She was the one in charge whenever he was absent. And it was her counsel that he needed before the impending war. However… Kalgalath was nearing the boundary and still he had not picked up her scent. Unconsciously he shrugged – he was early. But then a pounding sound echoed through his auds and then into his arctics came the sight of a brute running toward him… and it dawned upon Kalgalath that with his current velocity, the stranger would not be able to stop without crossing the boundary. Clumsily, he tripped and fell onto his face before flattening to the ground. Kalgalath’s growl grew and his hackles raised, but not at the stranger that even now was laying at his border… no – his rage was focused upon the three brutes running toward him, clearly chasing this one. Muscles tightening, he leapt toward the stranger, and indeed leapt over him, hackles raising. Lips unsheathed his daggers and low vocals rumbled out, the threat hanging in the air thickly. “I suggest you change your course of action… if you wish to live.
