the stars move still

“the stars move still, time runs, the clock will strike”

Marlena looked up at what was visible of the sky through the canopy of leaves above at the sound of thunder, slightly startled by the sudden noise. The weather was worsening, and although she did not mind the cold and wet of a storm much – her thick pelt left her better off than most – it was a pleasant, comforting notion to think that she could spend this one with company rather than huddled alone beneath the trees on the Crossing.

She grinned at Kasabian’s reply, the corners of her soft lips twisting gently upwards as droplets of rain trickled slowly down the contours of her pale face.

“There’s something exciting about a storm though,” she replied, putting a positive spin on the situation as she often did.

Marlena followed Kasabian gratefully, pleased to join him in the small cavern that he directed her towards. She could feel the warmth from his body as they stood so closely together, but she did not feel uncomfortable stood beside him. In fact, she thought that she liked it. His presence was comforting.

She met his emerald gaze with her own bright blue eyes, and she was infected by his contagious smile as ever. His words relieved her, and for the first time in quite a while she thought that she was satisfied with her situation.

“Then I will,” she replied quietly, blinking slowly.

With a soft smile, she reached out to nuzzle her nose affectionately against his neck in thanks.
