There is No Honor in Tricks

_________________________________________________________________________

The petite femme was shy and flustered around the brute. He was the first male that seemed nice in so long. After all the nightmares and horrors she had seen the femme had given up on hope that there was a single kind male out there. And if there were any decent brutes out there she never thought one would ever show any interest in her, not with how obviously damaged she was. And so with the confusing jumble that her mind was she smiled sheepishly at the male, wondering if this could be real or if somehow was just some trick. But it felt real, felt right to sit here and talk with this unique looking brute that she now knew was called Zorion. And so for once Lady let go, let herself stop worrying about the demons she had run away from, stop worrying about what she was going to do with her annoying younger sister, stop worrying about everything. And the brute’s words at her apology seemed to confirm that he was indeed nice and good, the opposite of what she was used to. “I suppose I thought that you would be surrounded by brutes because you are so beautiful and graceful. You are like nothing I have ever seen, in truth Lady. Anyway, Lady, there is nothing for you to apologize for, the sound of your laugh is absolutely delectable.” The gray femme ducked her head, a smile creeping upon her kissers, as she diverted her eyes to the ground in embarrassment. Noone had ever told her such kind words and seemed so sincere about them. Sure others had called her beautiful, but there was always another meaning behind their words, a meaning that she could not trust and had caused her to flee from anyone that had ever called her such words. ”Th..Thank you, Zorion. You are too kind.” She finally managed to stammer out a reply, her orbs looking back up to his gaze.

More words tumbled out of the femme’s maw, explaining how she had never been the center of attention, never wanted to be for that matter, and how she was just trying to get away from Nymeria for a time. Yes she loved her sister, but sometimes she needed to get as far away from the annoying brat as possible. She never imagined that she would run into a male such as this, would enjoy spending time in another’s presence. But she was, she was enjoying herself. The brute spoke again, inquiring about her life, as if he actually cared about what she had to say, “Oh you have a sister? That must be nice to have siblings. I, myself, am an only child. I’ve always wanted a family but I have been alone since I was a pup. My parents drowned.” The bluntness of his words shocked her. Yes terrible things had happened to her as well, but she did not think she could just blurt them out as easy as that. But with Zorion if felt as if she could tell him, that he would understand, that he would actually care. ”I’m sorry,” and she was truly sorry that that had happened to him. Sadness flickered in her yellow gaze as she looked at him with a sincere apology, her plume flicking out on its own accord to gently touch his flank. ”It is nice to have a sibling, I actually have a few. Three brothers and a bastard brother besides my sister. But my sister and I lost touch with all of them when we got held captive at this enemy pack. It was all very confusing, some of my siblings going to fight in one place, some running to hide in others. And then my father got killed, right in front of me, when I was told that he would be spared, but I was lied to. And then the brutes that killed him held my sister and I captive until we escaped. I have no idea what happened to my mother and the rest of my family.” She had not meant to tell him, to speak so much, but once she had mentioned the rest of her family the rest of it all just tumbled out in a big rush. Another blush crept across her face as she stopped speaking abruptly, turning her head away from his again, looking down. She did not like getting emotional in front of others, it made her feel weak, but she missed her family more than she was willingly to admit.

And so Lady turned the conversation back to the brute, asking Zorion why he had come here. His head turned away for a moment as he spoke, “Me? Oh well…as I said, I want a family. I figured this would be the best place I could go in order to find a femme who would become my mate. But more than that, become my soulmate. My best friend… the future mother of my pups.” He glanced at her quickly before chuckling and looking at the ground, as if he was embarrassed as she had been. The chuckle stirred something deep inside her. It really was a beautiful sound to hear the brute chuckle like that. “It is a stupid notion, I know. That is just my goal in life…” His brown orbs met her yellow ones again as he smiled, and without thinking she returned his smile. It just felt so right and easy with him. The thought of pups had never crossed her mind. Did she want to have pups? Sure she did, when she was older she supposed. She remembered her mother telling her and Nymeria how having kin was the best thing that had ever happened to her and Lady wanted to have her own pups to raise. Little boys that would be taught how to fight for and defend their own, little girls that she would how to be proper ladies, unlike Nymeria. She knew that she wanted pups and she agreed with the brute, she wanted to have pups with her soulmate. And could Zorion be that? Could he be her soulmate? The brute was the nicest male she had ever met and he made her smile and laugh in ways that she never thought she would again. He made her feel right. ”I don’t think it’s a stupid notion, Zorion. I think the idea of a family sounds beautiful. I want to have pups someday too, but it has to be, as you said, with the right wolf, with my soulmate. You’re the first male who’s ever truly been nice to me, it’s…different. It feels like I finally have a friend.” Again words tumbled out of her mouth without her thinking. She did not mean to say all that to him. Quickly her yellow gaze looked down again, afraid of what he was going to think. What would a lupine like him want with her? Surely he was not going to think that she was a friend the way that she thought he was. Embarrassment filled her and she wished she had not spoken aloud, afraid that Zorion would now leave. Lady forced herself to remain quiet, a whine almost escaping her lips as she pressed her audettes to her skull, worry creasing on her face at the way she had just spoken.
