unsung and lost

Dragon groaned as he shifted his weight once again, trying to keep it off of his aching shoulder. His hazardous re-exploration of his old home had consisted of climbing the mountains and even galloping over the small area of slopes that led up to the high ridges. He had explored the small jungles and forests and the three entrances of old, tiny caves that had collapsed. He wondered if anyone had discovered them since his son Ennuis; they were nestled at the bottom of the mountain that backed Dragon's favorite slope. The black stallion hadn't even known about them until the chestnut boy had pestered him to look at them.

The memory brought a smile to Dragon's lips and he let his eyes slip open. Proud mountains sat against the horizon that was alight with morning colors. There was no way he would be able to sleep now, memorizes would consume him if the light didn't keep him away. Testily putting some weight back onto his left leg, the black stallion blinked a few times before glancing around. He was on one of the lower slopes overlooking the beach. The sky was clear and the waves behind him lapped steadily. Dragon guessed he had wanted to fall asleep under the stars and therefore had come so far out into the open. A stupid mistake, his joints ached and no one would rescue him if predators attacked. The black stallion snorted and stepped into a slow walk, careful with his leg as he moved.

If he was looking for company, Dragon was in luck. As he plodded along with no real destination, the stallion spotted a few figures as his eyes broke away from the jungle he had been approaching head-on. One looked to be Kasabian, which was confirmed as Dragon drew closer. He had not met any other buckskins at the Ridge, but he wouldn't be surprised if there were more around. Another was a pale mare, taller than any other horse the black stallion had ever seen. Her size nearly turned him away, but Dragon was sure that at least one of them had noticed him by now. He recognized Pilar as he drew closer, but he had not seen the other dark mare who was there.

The Mustang continued on until he more or less a part of the group. His nostrils flared to take in the strangers' scents as his eyes flicked over the pale mare's coat before moving to study her face. He was barely close enough to tell, but it looked as though the mare sported white spots – paler than her coat – that resembled Ennuis'. Dragon glanced at the other black stranger before smiling lightly at all of them. He had nothing to say, but perhaps it would do him some good to meet some more horses.
