At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Fair enough Miss Macaria. Cooperation is good, you will make this much easier. Her maw softened into a smile and dipped her cranium, silently thanking him for seeing her way. In addition, her ambers held his azures, admiring them. They were deep and dark, the way the ocean looked under a clear night sky, a solid blue that almost looked black. But her examination of him ceased as his own kissers twisted into a smirk, one that she saw as a smile, not a cocky façade, but then he laughed and it was cold and frigid, sending shivers through her petite ebony pelt, as did his next set of words. Wise words Miss Macaria. I hate to disagree, but it depends on your definition of power. Would you cross me now? Her smile faded and she shook her head, disappointed with his response. “Kadiri, sir, I have no reason to cross you. I have told you already that I would help you in whatever you would need.” His orbs darkened and unconsciously she shrunk from his gaze. I can promise you that it would be a mistake. I do not need your respect, unfortunately. All I require is something much more subconscious. A calculation of survival you see; innately, whether you want to or not, your instincts will yield to my strength as I am stronger than you. That or you face harm. Instead of showing fear this time, however, she smiled, a soft laugh left her. “I keep telling you that I have no reason not to listen to you. As for instincts, I have my own set of instincts, ones that all others have as well. But instincts can be overcome by training and upbringing. My instincts are curbed by words my father and aunt have told me. You have proven that you can bring to me whether or not I do as you wish, so I would rather attempt to help you. The consequences will be the same, the least I can do is to do a little good in the world, and make the best of the situation.” Humour me Miss Macaria and consider this – to truly understand power you must have had it. Her words came quickly and softly. “All beings have a power of some sort, it does not just come in strength or force. Power can be knowledge or wisdom, personality, caring, empathy… each has their own strengths and weaknesses. You are stronger than I, and use fear as a tool. It is not one I would choose for I do not have the strength or ability to enforce it… but even if I did have that power, I would not choose to use it.” The ess knew that her answer would not be taken well, but the first step in helping Kadiri was to make him see the truth of things… to look inside, past the façades that even fooled him. The brute was silent, beginning to walk away from her and so she rose, following him at a step behind. Where we are going is not important for your knowledge at the moment. “Perhaps not, but it will be eventually. Now can you tell me how it is that I will be able to help you? I need to know your mission if I am to help in any way.” Each step tore at her skin, but she did not wince, accepting the pain that had come from his jaws, learning a lesson from it. Had she been more aware of her surroundings, she would have realized that he was there. She would have heard him or seen him, and perhaps been able to get away from him. But that was the past. Kadiri was her present, and she would have to deal with the consequences of her actions and lack of knowledge of the ways of the world. Today was the first time she realized it – only within the boundaries of your pack were you truly safe. Only with your friends and family to protect you could you be without fear. As Kadiri had spoke it, she did fear him, but not because he would hurt her – he had already hurt her. She feared the path he tread down and how he might destroy himself, for what a loss to the world that would be… |
