Renn was hurting, and the whole world was dark. Danny had told himself he wouldn't cry, that he would be strong and brave and do whatever it took, whatever Flynn told him to do, to help his sister, but hearing her words, feeling her pain like a scorching cut on his own soul, Danny's lips wobbled. He'd lingered a bit behind as Flynn went to Renn, in part out of some halfway formed fear that Renn might be angry with him for fetching their brother and in part because he didn't know what to do, what he could possibly say or do, to help her. Flynn stood so strong, so steady. He would be the rock and Danny, Danny would be... The boy pressed his lips together hard, tangling his fingers together in a desperate attempt to get them to stop shaking. The agony in his sister's voice broke Danny's heart, the two halves seeming to beat at different paces until his chest felt tight and his breathing came too fast. He stayed silent, lost in a sea of helplessness, while Flynn did what Flynn did best: took care of his family.

Eventually, after what felt like ages, Renn's words and desperation seemed to ease. Desperate now to be near her, Danny sidled a little nearer. Flynn's smile found the fear and anxiety making knots in his stomach and eased them a little, enough that Danny offered a small, tentative smile of his own in return. Danny drifted closer to them, sitting close so that he partially leaned against Flynn too. His own hand, still a bit shaky, gently stroked her hair in an imitation of Flynn's. Say something? What could he possibly say? How could he possibly make this better? He racked his mind, trying to find something, anything, that could help. He drifted over words about Henry, but quickly tossed them aside. Maybe it was better to keep such things

"Remember when Sol was little, and we ate all the special order of peanut butter Dad had? And Sol's tongue was stuck to the roof of his mouth for almost the whole day?" he offered tentatively, now rubbing Renn's back. "I thought Dad was going to be so mad at us, but he just laughed and told us to share. So we gave Lunarian some and didn't tell him, so his tongue got stuck? Nico was too smart though."

Danny shot a small smile in the bird's direction at that.
