Though Grim and I had spent the majority of our time together outdoors, I couldn't help but wince a little as we - Pablo, Grim, and I - tracked mud across cream-colored rugs. At least Grim managed to contain the desperate urge to poke around; thankfully, there weren't many personal effects to draw her attention, so she stayed (mostly) focused on Mallos. She trotted after him as they headed towards the bathroom, her eyes bright. I tried to think back to the last time she'd bathed in an actual tub, as opposed to quick washes in cold rivers or the occasional face wipe with a dingy towel. It'd been so long I couldn't remember, if she'd ever had the chance. The warmth of an actual bath would do wonders for her scars and leg, I knew, and couldn't help but feel grateful that Mallos was talking her into it.

Grim was carried away by the story, her eyes wide and her entire being focused on Mallos' story. She giggled as he poked her belly. I could tell there were all sorts of questions waiting behind those big gray eyes, but she was too interested in hearing the rest to interrupt. Her mouth fell open, a perfect "o", as he spoke of Aeira being taken from her home. Her face split into yet another giggle as Mallos mimed carrying her, reveling in the fact that someone was holding her like... Well, like she belonged. At the end of his story, Grim clapped her hands and cheered. She was so eager to meet this bath nymph that she looked about ready to hop in fully clothed.

"Okay!" Grim said cheerfully. She stripped off her grubby dress without a second thought and plopped into the warm water, exclaiming with glee when she found it warm and toasty. Almost immediately she began speaking with "Aeira" and the other nymphs, her voice echoing in the emptiness of the bathroom, before turning to playing pirate ship with the soap. Her voice lightened and deepened with the various characters on the pirate ship (everyone eventually ended up screaming as the soap "sank", of course). I let her play for a bit before I reminded her she was in there to wash. She scrubbed herself down, turning pink and wrinkly. I couldn't remember a time I'd seen her so clean, and had nearly forgotten her hair was such a light shade of brown. Her movements had eased considerably, to the point that even her bad leg was forgotten as she splashed about (getting a good deal of water on the ground, unfortunately). I took advantage of her distraction to wash my paws and, eventually, got Pablo to do the same. No more tracking mud through Mallos' place!

Grim looked up, beaming, with a soap bubble attached to her nose when Mallos entered. Her eyes widened as they focused in on the blue pajamas, clapping her hands together under her chin.

"For me?" she whispered, unable to contain the desperate hope in her voice or her eyes. Even I could see that they looked soft and warm, so soft and warm that Grim would probably try to wear them everywhere. I'd been convinced that it would take an army to get the girl out of the bath, but the temptation of those warm jammies was too great to resist. Once she'd managed to wash the rest of the soap from her hair, she clambered out. Drying off was a bit of an ordeal, since her hair "kept being drippy", but she eventually managed to get dry enough to pull on the pajamas. She sighed happily, but frowned at the buttons down her front. She'd managed to button some of them, but they were in the wrong holes, so the fabric was bunched up and soft pink skin, crossed over with scars, was just visible. Grumbling a little, she trotted out to the front room to Mallos.

"Buttons are stupid!" she said, poking her lower lip out rather dramatically. It was as close to cranky as a girl like Grim got. Hopefully we could get Grim bunked down on the couch before she got teary-eyed, which was usually the next step.
