To say Danny was surprised was rather an understatement. Though Danny definitely considered the older boy a friend, he'd become pretty accustomed to Thoth's rather singular focus. A lot of the time Danny considered this rather a relief; Thoth had been one of the few who hadn't really tiptoed around the fact that he'd seemed tired and sad lately. Instead, if he'd noticed, he hadn't asked, and had given Danny something exciting to focus on instead of his own feelings. Danny hadn't meant to upset his friend, he hadn't even really thought about showing up so disheveled, but Thoth was clearly angry with the other boy. He flushed at Thoth's growl, his head bobbing up and down when the older boy confirmed his bully's name.
"He's a real jerk," Danny said in agreement; he sensed that wasn't the end of the conversation, though. Danny gave a little shrug at Thoth's comment about it not doing any good. In truth, he'd thought Thoth would be more upset about the potential danger to his lab (those older, bigger boys had a penchant for destruction it seemed) than what had been done to Danny, especially with his reassurances that Sol had discouraged them after awhile. Obviously, that wasn't the case though. Sol perked up when Morveren appeared from under the bed, lowering his much larger head to give her a sniff in greeting. She seemed more subdued, and Danny wondered if that was because their connection (albeit interrupted by the ancient creature at the moment) had alerted her to Thoth's frustration. Still, she seemed to have some sort of plan as she quickly distracted Thoth. A silent conversation, not unlike the ones Sol and Danny often had, followed between Thoth and his familiar while Danny and Sol traded confused glances. Where would who be now? Tarquin? Well, that was probably an easy one, he'd be off finding someone new to bother. Danny started to object when Thoth clambered out of his bed, a myriad of possible complications from him getting up and moving about running through his head. A lecture danced at the tip of his tongue, but something... maybe curiosity, or the fact that he knew Thoth wouldn't listen to him anyways, kept him quiet. Instead, he and Sol hurried after him and Morveren. "Aren't you going to get in trouble?" Danny asked worriedly. "I swear it's no big deal, Thoth, I don't want to cause any trouble." |
