The sleek silver femme knew that her brother had many demons and skeletons in his closet, but seeing someone you loved and cared about killed in front of you was something no one should ever have to witness. Adara could not imagine what her brother was feeling and what he had felt, and she would not pretend to. The only thing she could do now was be there for him, comfort him when he needed it and just be a good sister and friend. She knew that having someone actually stay with him, loyally be by his side and not leave him in the future, was a foreign idea to him. So many lupines had promised him they would not leave and had left him so what else was he supposed to think? The femme understood that, and she would prove to him that she was different and that she would always stand by him, no matter what may happen between the siblings. She knew that it was not the same but their other brother, Rohan, had disappeared and she had not seen him for a very long time, and she missed him. Adara and Rohan had never been apart for more than a few days in the past and now she had no idea what to do without her other brother. She imagined the feeling she was beginning to have about Rohan was only a small taste of the loss and betrayal that Aindreas had experienced throughout his life. And so when she gave her brother her condolences and all he did was nod his head, she could not blame him. Adara had no idea what he was feeling and her words probably meant nothing to him, but she still wanted him to know that she was here, and that she always would be.
But there was a breaking point for her and she needed to make her brother understand that what she said was true. So she spun around, forcing their identical blue orbs to meet as she told him, once again, that she would prove to him that her words were true. She knew that words would mean nothing to him because of how often he had been hurt before, but she would show him through her actions. The white brute broke eye contact and walked around her in silence. When he walked away and sat beside one of the ledges in the territory she stood still for a moment, hurt that he didn’t even acknowledge her words, but she gave in and sat beside him. Finally he spoke after a few moments of silence, “I do appreciate your optimism, but I simply cannot believe that. I know you do not mean to betray or leave me, but life has showed me that everyone does. It is all I have known, ergo all I can believe.” Adara didn’t know what to say, and so for once she copied her brother and remained silent, knowing no words would change his opinion. When she finally did find some words his orbs flicked away from her again. She heard him whine softly when she spoke, and she gently brushed against him for a moment before continuing to speak. He leaned into her, an act of touch that surprised her, and nudged her with his nose. She leaned back into him, a whine escaping her throat as she did so. He spoke briefly, and then moved away from the touch, “You have nothing to apologize for, you have done naught to me.” The silver femme knew that she had not done anything wrong to him, but she still felt bad for everything that had happened to her brother.
The siblings sat in silence for a few moments before, surprisingly, the brute spoke again. “Do not think that I do not trust you, dear sister. For in fact you are quite dear to me and I hold your life higher than my own. I have only lived so long alone and am no stranger to pain, and perhaps I am broken beyond repair. My mind… has cracks and in moments I am not what you would consider sane. Believe me when I say that I keep you away to save you from the insanity that is always fighting within me to creep to the surface. I do not wish for you to ever be frightened of me…” It was one of the longest speeches she had heard her brother udder. Usually he spoke as little as possible, but now the words seemed to tumble from his maw and she listened silently. She knew that no matter what madness may take over her brother that she would never be afraid of him, that she would always stand beside him. ”Aindreas, you may think that you will frighten me one day if this ‘insanity’ is to come to the surface, but I will always stand by your side and nothing you do will drive me away or frighten me.”
He turned away from the ledge and the pair walked side by side in silence through the territory of Aurora. The siblings’ conversation became more lighthearted as their focus turned to the pack they now resided in. She jested lightly at him about the den she knew he had dug recently, a smile coming to her kissers as she remembered the dirty state his pelt had been in when she found him. The brute looked confused for a moment before remembering how she would know that information and a rare small smile came across his features, “Yes, I have. It is well hidden, of course.” The femme picked up on the fact that he did not mention where it was located, but it did not bother her. She knew how private her brother was and did not expect him to tell her every detail of his life. She grinned back at him as she playfully bumped into him as they walked, ”Of course it’s well hidden. I wouldn’t expect any less from one as secretive as yourself.”
