It was quick. The bird calls of alarms sounded and instinctively Emerence rose to her feet, the bow drawn and her eyes narrowed. It was held in front of her, lined up properly to her eyes. She slowly did a three sixty, cautiously placing her feet in a circular manner.
A shadow emerged from the fire and Em tightened her grip, slowly backing to give herself enough distance. It had been awhile since she had killed someone. Em recalls it well. Sleeping on the streets builds a thick shell. She had been sleeping on a fire escape next to a heater when she heard the clanging of metal. Her eyes had glanced down to see three men with guns, with strong aim, watching her. One raised his hand up, waving her down. What do you do? The escape felt unusually long as she clammered her way down the ladder, where at the bottom, another man grabbed her legs and ripped her down. She had listened to the speak.. Unmentionable things, when two of them left at the sound of a gun shot. They were apart of a gang. One man stayed behind, clearly a newer recruit with fresh bruises and scars. To her left laid a broken bottle. To her right was a rope. She didn’t have much options once she realized her resources. It hadn’t been easy, feeling his body struggle under hers. It hadn’t been emotionless, as she wrestled his pistol from his hand after two accidental fires. She had to do it though. He couldn’t have the breath to tell the others where she ran. So she did it.
So as a shadow emerges from the fire, Emerence holds her own.
The voice is feminine, and soon as the darkness reveals the females face, Em lets a slight sigh of relief leave her lips.. But she doesn’t shift from her stance.
“Girl’s got to be careful,” she says, her eyes narrowed, “I would rather kill you first before you kill me.”
