Mixed feelings swam through the femme. On one side she was glad to see Magic and Kalgalath again, very glad indeed, but on the other hand she hated to see her alpha hurt in such a way. Kal and Chenzii had had some time previously to catch up so she knew all that had happened between him and Zig, and it caused hot burning anger to fill her. She knew the pain of betrayal, knew it first-hand on more than one occasion, and Kal knew all this. To the black femme it seemed that her and Kal had bonded with the shared emotions. Both had felt the loss of their lovers and it was a feeling that not many knew, a feeling that Chenzii would never wish upon anyone. So with the anger and hurt feelings also came the pleasure of being with her friends again. The pack had been dead lately, really everywhere in Aurora had been from what Chenzii could see, and it was refreshing to see the faces of her friends again.
After being alone for so long she knew it was better for her, and really for everyone, for her to go out and interact with her pack. As much as she had wanted to stay holed up in her den, alone and hiding from the world, she knew it would not help her heal. Her body had healed physically, her pelt back to its original shine, but a part of her was still hollow. The ebony femme had forced her body back into motion, hunting and training as she used to until her flesh filled out again and her muscles were strong as they once were. She knew now that she could fight and defend for the pack again, that she could hunt for herself and for others, that she was physically back to her old self. But her mind and dreams haunted her. She would go to sleep, alone in her new den, and wake up crying and screaming to the nightmares that plagued her. She had had to make a new den, could not stand to sleep in the larger area that she had once shared with the brute that had left her. And so she was adjusting to sleeping alone again, something she had not done much of. Before she had met Chiron she had traveled with her brother. The femme had not thought of her brother in a long time, but now that she was alone again her thoughts drifted to the other brute that had been so important in her life. Lucien had come to visit her before, but it had not been for a while. She remembered when they were young and on their own, how she had cared for him and how they had slept together in the cold months to keep each other warm. And now she was alone again, with no one, family or mate, to curl up with to keep her warm at night. That was one of the biggest things she missed about having someone with her, was just a body to go to at night, to keep her feeling wanted and safe. The femme could only hope that another would come into her life that she could trust, one that would not leave her like everyone else had.
Chenzii forced the negative thoughts out of her and to focus on Magic and Kalgalath. Focusing her mind and energy on the negative parts of her like would not make things any better. The black femme greeted her friend before both faes turned their attention to Kal, “Chenzii, I have missed you as well.” The ess smiled at her friend before her features turned to the silver brute, listening as he filled Magic in on what had happened with Zig and why she was no longer a part of Aurora, and why she would not be welcome back. As hard as this decision must be for the brute, Chenzii agreed with him entirely. She knew it was best for him and for Aurora to not let the other female come back into the pack. Chenzii had wondered if Zig was ever really a part of Aurora Borealis’ pack besides being Kal’s mate. AS far ash Chenzii could tell she never made any efforts to make relationships with anyone else in the pack other than Kal. For anyone else in the pack the femme saw nothing wrong with this, but not for one who was supposed to be Alphess of the lands. As Chenzii listened to Kal’s tale a second time she got angry all over again for her friend, wishing she could take away the pain that he was feeling. Her fur bristled and she forced the growl that threatened to escape to stay silent. Her yellow orbs burned with anger when she glanced at Kalgalath’s sitting form.
Chenzii turned her attention to Magic’s words and could see that the other femme was affected by Kal’s words as she was as Magic worked to keep her own anger under control. It was obvious that the two females were close to the brute and that they did not want him to be hurting the way that he was. “Zig lost something incredible for not being loyal. Before making a choice, you have to think, and clearly that is not what she did. She was never here for us. In fact, not any one of us had established a conversation with her. She was not here to start, or receive, one. In my opinion, the only loss, as a pack, we have endured is the loss of an Alphess that behaved like an Omega. However, Kalgalath, my grief for you is strong. I am truly sorry for your loss.” Chenzii was glad that Magic was able to put words to the feelings she was experiencing, and that her words agreed with the femme’s thoughts. Her gaze turned to Kal, hoping he would understand that she too agreed with Magic’s words. ”Magic is right Kal. The pack still has you and you are the one who has protected this pack and kept us all together, not her. None of us knew her as we all know you. You are the one who has made the efforts to keep this pack alive as a family, not her. But I know how hard it is to lose someone you love. We’re both here for you Kal, and we always will stand by your side.” The brute had been a friend to her when she was despairing over the loss of Chiron, and she would make sure to be a friend to him now that he needed friends to support him.
Magic’s golden orbs looked towards Chenzii and the femme smiled when she met her friend’s gaze, knowing that she looked much different than the last time they had met. Her form was filled out and healthy, the opposite of what she had looked like when Magic and Chenzii last met. “Chenzii. You look amazing.” The femme let out a gentle laugh at her friend’s words. ”Thank you, Magic. I feel much better than the last time we met. How have you been, my friend?” She knew that her friend’s mate was always in and out of her life, and she could only imagine how hard for her it must be to not always have her mate by her side. It was a relationship that Chenzii knew she would not be able to handle mentally, and she knew how strong her friend was to have that in her life.
“Testing my Reply”
"We were never meant to last," She whispers.
