aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Even though I understand first hand about heart break, I still feel like the words don't do enough for Kalgalath, not compared to how I really feel about what he's been there. He doesn't deserve it. He deserves happiness, forever happiness. I will never believe that I do but he hasn't done the things I have. He doesn't even know about the things I've done. I've been careful not to let Kalgalath see that side of myself and hopefully he never will. I don't want to let him down but I feel in control enough to say that I can be here for him in his hour of need. I can be the support he should have had from the beginning. He does manage a smile when I tell him that I'm here and he says it can never be a negative. I can't help but smile back at that as I nod in encouragement, my way of saying "alright, then let's do this." I'm ready for whatever he may need, may it be time or distraction or just silence.

When I tell him how the pack will understand whatever he decides, he nods and I know that he believes it. I know that I haven't always been there. I've heard the stories that have passed in my times of absence. I know about the wolf he took in and cared for who ended up turning on him for a prince of Malignant Felicity. I don't understand it and for her sake, wherever she may be, I won't even try. I know that he must have felt a stab of betrayal when she didn't defend him and the pack who took her in though. I know how caring he is, how big his heart is when someone needs him. He's always been the hero, one of the many traits I respect about Kalgalath. When I mention hunting, I can hear his stomach growl and I offer a sly smirk, eyes gleaming knowingly. He must be hungry then. I nod and turn with him toward Prey Plateau and that's when my eyes come across a vision.

She looks like something straight out of my dreams, no hair out of place and yet more beautiful than ever. Her coat of so many colors, all glimmering in the sunlight like the rays come from her. Her eyes, they glow like the sun itself and I know that I will go to her before I even feel my paws stepping in that direction. My ears flicker and I know I hear Kalgalath somewhere behind me now talking to her, introducing himself, telling her about Sin's death. I don't stop until I'm in front of her, staring into her beautiful eyes as I search her face.

"Akina...it's really you."

I whisper the words like a prayer before I turn my head to my best friend.

"She was here for Sin's passing, just not long after. She stayed with Sin while it happened."

My eyes grow sad at the memory of that day, how I stood guard outside the den while they talked until Sin no longer breathed. Akina was so tore up after that. Not many understood just how close they were. Sin and her were best friends, more like sisters. There was nothing but trust between them. I look at her again, tracing over her features with my gaze as if trying to lock it to memory forever. Finally I turn back to Kalgalath.

"Kalgalath, I'd like you to finally meet Akina."

I know he'll remember the name. He was with me while I grieved for her after she left. I was pretty sure she left with Blood Titan but I could never be sure. All I knew is I lost her trail and I thought she was gone for good. I had accepted it as for the best but then why is she back and better yet, why is she looking at me like she needs me to breathe? I know I never got over my feelings for her but I thought I didn't stand a chance to her first love, the father of her children. Has that changed? I have to know, but these questions are for another time. I stare into those gorgeous eyes, wishing they could swallow me up and hold me for eternity.
