Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

IN ALL MY DREAMSI DROWN

She watched the river as it ebbed and flowed. It was constant, ever changing. It never stayed in one place. Jealousy was a fire that flickered across her insides. If only she could be water, always moving, never thinking, never caring. What would she do if existence was made that simple? Would finding peace be an option or would she simply already be at peace since the worries of life were gone?

Lore gave a small sigh. Thinking about such things held no productivity. It never helped anyone to fill your mind with daydreams and what-ifs. The world around them was no fairy tale story. All those happy endings were just a lie. Everyone liked to walk around ignorant, naive, in denial. It was enough to make her sick to her stomach. They clung so tightly to hope and the idea of love; craved it, mourned it. Love was just an excuse to get hurt. Nothing more.

A jaded outlook? Perhaps. She preferred to call it practical.

As she saw the pale-furred female move into her sight down there by the bank, Lore couldn’t help but give a small frown. Even now, with the chill of winter touching down, they all were still searching for something. That “something” was different for everyone. All that Lore needed, all that she wanted, was an opportunity, preferably one that she could exploit. Maybe this wolf would be of some assistance but honestly, she wasn’t expecting much.

She approached the stranger with caution, or at least thats what her body language would tell you. When she was a few feet away, she paused, taking in the unfamiliar scent, processing it in silence. The female was asleep, and it gave Lore the advantage momentarily. Composing herself, taking on a more friendly stance, she called out softly, “Hello? Excuse me?”

Her voice held a note of compassion, but inside, the wheels had started to spin, “Are you okay?”
