Perhaps in daylight, Crow’s deception wouldn’t have worked. Léon had been given much instruction in the art of the poker face. However, with only diluted moonlight to guide him, the roan boy knew better than to mess with someone in this sort of mood. Her words were angry. That enough to give Léon an indication of something amiss. Ears pricked forward.

Had his father’s aggression been the correct mode of action then?

“Oh,” Léon said. “Would you happen to know his name? I saw him only briefly about two seasons ago and I thought he went towards this island. I’d like to have some way to ask around besides just his description.” He snorted and shook his red mane. He could of course stop by the other territory and ask there. Maybe even check out some of the other islands.

He looked at the black mare when she suggested he leave. He shifted his weight.

“You don’t know what my further questions are,” Léon pointed out. “for example, my next question could be what’s your name? Surely you have an answer for that one.” It was a little snarky, but he was trying to lighten the mood a little. He wasn’t going to brave the ocean again in the dark anyway. At most, he’d head back towards the beach.

Which was…

Ok, he might spend the night stumbling around in the dark. That was more likely than actually making it back to the beach.

“Or… how do I get back to the beach? I can’t really leave if I’m stuck in the jungle.” He laughed nervously at that one. Hopefully she wasn’t as violent as her actions seemed to indicate. Even then, Léon supposed it was possible to talk someone down.
