Vesti
Nice going, The voice muttered. Vesti had watched as Orhan’s expression went from shock to something unreadable. She had hoped for a more favorable response. Her own stomach sank. Badr had always been more than willing to cooperate with her… hormones. And while the two boys she had gained were lovely, she had hoped to try with a stallion she had found to be reliable and compassionate.
I guess you’re right, She thought. He finally stuttered a response and her ears jerked up. He hadn’t outright said no.
“Well, only if you’re willing,” Vesti said. “But yes… I’d like to have a foal.” Vesti had always found that honesty was a pretty big deal. If she left no room for guessing, he would have to give her an answer. Whether favorable or not.
You’re just setting yourself up, the Voice attempted to dissuade her. He’s not going to go for it. You can see it in his face. Go ahead and tell yourself it’s shock… And Vesti knew the Voice had a point. Her head dropped a bit again.
“Sorry,” she said finally. “I… I didn’t mean to spring something like that on you.” She looked away.
Saving face? I think you just crossed a line. You’re gonna be lucky if he lets you stay. Knowing this. The Voice could be cruel. Vesti knew that better than anyone. Especially now, when looking at the buckskin and at the brash, hopeful way she had just sprung such a deep question at him… she should know better at her age.
