Stardust huffed. Her mother wasn’t exactly helping her cause. She sounded a great deal like Soljor had. That this was a natural thing. That this was supposed to happen. Blah. Blah. Blah. She snorted.

“But, Mother,” Stardust looked at the bay. “Shouldn’t I at least get a say in the matter? I mean, what if I don’t like the stallion? What if they tricked Dad or something? Why don’t I get to pick where I want to go?!” She stamped her feathered hoof in protest.

Her head and ears flicked upwards as Fly suggested they go talk to Soljor. She gave a little bunny hop and pranced about. So her mother would fix everything! She knew she’d come to the right place.

“Let’s go! I know right where he is!” Stardust skipped off, only stopping to make sure her mother was close behind.

Soljor was grazing off near the woods where there was still green grasses. His conversation with Stardust hadn’t gone as planned. Especially since she had jumped him with her intentions to head to the Crossing come spring. She hadn’t bothered to stay for the full story or for the stallion he’d arranged to put her with. Instead, she had heard him say he’d already picked her new lead and she’d run off. His head turned when he heard approaching hooves and saw his eldest on her way.

With Fly in tow.

Soljor swallowed the last of the grass. He had meant to tell Fly first. He doubted she’d have any objections to Magnus as Stardust’s first stallion. It kept her close to home but Magnus was a solid stallion.

“Stardust, Fly,” He greeted. Stardust came to a stop in front of Soljor. She had a glint in her eye. She suspected her mother would convince him to let her explore on her own. To get out there and see what was there. Without being grounded at least.
