Syrell Racing Supermodified to Appear During Oswego County BOCES Orientation
OSWEGO, NY (December 9, 2014) – The Syrell Racing No. 68 Novelis Supermodified driven by 2014 Turning Stone Resort Casino Favorite Driver Michael Barnes will be appearing Thursday at the Oswego County BOCES 10th grade orientation on behalf of the Advanced Metal Manufacturing class, formerly known as Motorsports Fabrication.
Advanced Metal Manufacturing, taught by Supermodified car builder Joe Hawksby Jr., introduces students to the skills and training of design, machining, fabricating, and welding. Using engineering drawing techniques and CAD-CAM software, students design projects starting with raw materials like steel, aluminum, and brass. Students will then use machine tools and fabricating equipment to build projects.
The Syrell Racing Supermodified was completed by Hawksby and Dalton Doyle, a graduate of the Motorsports Fabrication class, just prior to the 2014 Oswego Speedway season.
Barnes drove the Syrell Racing, Hawk Chassis Supermodified to two feature wins in 2014 on his way to an 8th place finish in the final Novelis Supermodified driver standings.
The Syrell Racing machine will now be displayed with the hope of enticing more young students of today to become involved in learning a motorsports trade such as Advanced Metal Manufacturing, with the hope of introducing auto racing, Supermodifieds, and Oswego Speedway to the youth of the local community.
