PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

YOU LEFT ME IN THE DARK, Inka

IMPAZIENZA
Impa stood at the edge of the crystalline lake that fed water to the Falls. It was cold up on the mountain top and the sky was filled with thick gray clouds, but the blanketed draft mare had a thick layer of fur already and the dreary day suited her mood just fine.

Sometime during the night, Jezibelle had been to the Peak. Impa had smelled her sister's scent when she woke, and although she had searched a wide perimeter around the area where most of the herd chose to sleep Impa had found no sign of the whimsical bay mare. There had been another scent, more subtle but unmistakably male, that floated under Jezibelle's. The black mare had recognized it after a few moments as belonging to her brother, Rurisk.

Impa snorted and stamped a hoof. Autumn was in full swing down below, and the world was a rich canvas of reds and yellows and the gradients in between on a backdrop of warm browns. Up on the Peak it felt like winter. Impa wasn't bothered by the cold. It put distance between the mountain and the rest of the Islands, and there was something comforting about being able to pretend she was in an entirely separate world.

Maybe that's why Jezibelle dreams so much during the day, she thought as she stepped up to the lake's edge. it's nice to think the world can't affect you if you stand in just the right place. Like here, on the bank of a beautiful blue lake in relative solitude on a giant piece of stone. The Peak, Impa thought, was her fortress, and the mares on its face her herd. She knew far too few of them personally but could not find it within herself to introduce herself to any of the new arrivals. So many mares had come and gone that it seemed futile to engage with any of them.

There was only one horse she really wanted to see anyway, and that one didn't even live here. Impa snorted again as she considered her reflection: her shaggy winter coat made her look scruffy and her whiskers seemed longer than ever. Her left eye was a pale blue useless thing in her face and there was a smattering of white on her muzzle that hadn't been there in previous years. She felt old.

And lonely.

Impa struck the water with her hoof and snapped her tail against her flanks as she pivoted to the right. Let the lake and everything its clear water revealed lie on her blind side. She didn't want to see herself anymore. Instead Impa dipped her head to lip listlessly at the short grass, going through the motions of grazing without any real appetite as she turned her thoughts back to Jezibelle and the reasons why her sister might be avoiding her.
