He had nearly turned on her that day, furious at the loss of such an easy meal. Two times in a row quarry that he once would have taken easily in his wanderings had slipped through their paws, and instinct made him blame her. His skill as a hunter would not be impugned by her lack of capability. He had never failed when hunting on his own, beyond these wildly populous accursed lands. But rather than sink his fangs into the only wolf who balanced the madness of these lands against the psychosis in his mind, he had turned away from her and disappeared into the shadows from which he had so often stalked her. In his seething fury he had once more tried to turn north, to escape this realm and return to the outlands where he had wandered all his life. Once more he had found himself trapped, unable to escape, his chosen routes always turning him back south, deeper into the web that had entwined him in its grasp.
Coal nostrils flared, his stark mane fringed in crimson prickling as he scented her once more. The white temptress who had entrapped him here as much as the cloying sense that he could not leave these lands no matter how hard he tried. Only in her presence did the memories lay their heads to rest, allowing the demon inside to rear his ugly head in turn. Blood mingled with her scent, and the trail she left in the snow was unmistakable. She had taken prey, and meant to keep it all to herself. How very selfish of her.
Trudging through the snow, he followed her tracks down into the grotto where first they had met. The closer he got, the stronger her scent became. She was here now, and the rumbling growls of pleasure made his otherwise placid ears prick forward. It was a sound he recognized, one he had once caused her to elicit himself. But the tone was slightly different now, muffled by the sound of flesh filling her maw. He did not sneak forward, feeling no reason to conceal himself from her. Instead, as he came to the entrance to her palace of bones, he uttered a low growl of his own. It did not challenge her, nor ask her permission. It was merely a greeting, and his green eyes narrowed to stare at the lupine body she feasted upon.
